My husband has secured employment so we are now able to relocate to Colorado Springs. I want to thank everyone for all the questions you've answered for me over the last few months. The situation allows us fairly significant flexibility on move time. We have commitments in our current location until January. I guess I'll be spending more time over on the general moving forum now since the clock is ticking and I need to figure out how to move a family of 4 plus pets. Thanks again for the help and any other suggestions are always appreciated. I'm worried the full family move could happen during the spring and I'm a bit nervous about your snowy March/April time while relocating.

Congratulations!

April will be less snowy than March, and whatever does snow usually melts fast in April. We have had some really big snows in March though.

Of course, it might not snow at all - that happens sometimes too!

Only part of the drive during that time frame to be concerned with is Raton Pass. Rest of it is easy enough nearly any time of the year.

I moved here last April. We moved from the Seattle area. We went up thru Spokane --thru Montana--then down thru Wyoming. We had two dogs and a Uhaul truck and two cars. It was about 1500 miles. We stopped at just about every rest stop. We checked the weather everyday and stayed at pet friendly places. We were prepared to stop if we had bad weather. We checked the weather reports everyday(and all day) and the DOT per state. All and all everything went well. I wish you well and safe travels.

While over at the General Moving forum, check out these choice threads:

- Cleaning out the house before moving.

- Should I hire a mover or leave furniture behind and buy new when we get there?

Excellent. I will check out those threads as we have way too much stuff. Thanks everyone! Once this part of the journey is complete, my folks want to follow us up (they are retired late 60's) so I'll have questions relating to that later.

So far your weather is about the same temp as ABQ. I'm curious as to when you all start dipping lower then us during your fall season.

We have been hitting right around the record highs the last week or two. I suggest moving furniture unless the furniture is crap (sorry, I'm blunt!) because it is such a pain to find good quality used furniture at reasonable prices. You can find expensive used furniture and cheap junk all day long, but finding a good quality couch and loveseat took a week or two with my wife searching 2 or 3 times a day. We found them and were at the house very shortly there after.

Depending on the temperament of your pets and how well they travel/like being in a car - you might want to talk to your vet about getting something to give them while they're "on the road".
