Unfortunately, a few items did not fair well in our move. We have a few broken pieces of furniture and other odds and ends. Is there a place I can take this stuff to dump it or do I call our trash service and hsve them pick it up for a fee? I have to get our garage cleaned out to park in it. Thanks.

I usually leave that stuff on my driveway w/ a FREE sign on it, after a few hours it is usually gone!

Things like old water heaters, washer/dryers, old tube-type TV's etc...are picked up quickly by recyclers.

Free maybe good in some parts of towns where there is a fair amount of traffic if it isn't restricted by covenants. In a culdesac in Black Forest, the results will most likely be significantly different.

There is the Waste Mgmt Transfer Station on the south side of Cos (off I-25 and Circle roughly) that will take furniture, boxes, bricks and other misc trash.

Yard waste, trimmings, tree parts etc. can go to Rocky Top Resources on south Las Vegas. They also are a great source for reasonably price mulches and other landscape materials.

For TV, electronics, and mattresses, Keen Recycling has some of the best rates in town. They also will do pick ups but I'm unsure of any quantities or fees associated with that.

Bluestar Recycling is another option for electronics. They are a formal charity orgnaization (sorry, don't know the code) that employs disabled workforce for dis-assembly and reclaim of items.

FYI, if you have hazardous things (including TVs under 19 inches, electronics, old toilets) El Paso County as a facility that will take them for free (non perishable donation encouraged):

Calling your regular trash hauling service is likely to be the easiest solution.

I see 1-800-got-junk services Colorado Springs -- they will actually come into your home to pick up stuff so you don't even have to haul it out to the curb. I used them when I lived in the Boston area to collect some chunks of concrete out of my yard that the city-provided trash collection service wouldn't take, even if I could have carried them out to the curb by myself.

We can call our trash company and they will come and get large items for an additional fee. I would check with whomever you use for your garbage pickup.

Why would you suggest that? It's bad enough some people actually do it.

Because the same cheap-arse jerks will also leave mattresses by any large dumpster too. Can't pay that extra $10 or so the trash service charges to haul it away but somehow booze and cigarettes are part of their diet.

Same folks that use public trash cans for their household trash.
