Is the moisture we've had the last month normal for this time of year or is this unusual? We've gotten pretty consistent afternoon rain most days.

The weather patterns lately remind me of what it was like here when I first moved to Colorado Springs in 1977.

Clear mornings, clouds come in by 1 PM, thunderstorms at 3-4 PM then clear again by 6. I love that pattern.

For several dry years we had missed those daily storms.

Having survived Waldo Canyon where 5 house on my block were totally destroyed, I'll take the nice afternoon rain showers and cooler temps any day!

Me too, remember those years well! We used to complain because we had to wash our cars so much after those afternoon rains. I sure miss those days.

Last summer (spring) was MUCH wetter than this year, this year seems almost the old "normal".

I don't think there is any 'normal' here, but we frequently have years like this. Last year, in early August, we got tons of rain up on the Palmer Divide. I had flooding in areas I have never seen before - flooded my gardens.

Early August heavy rains are generally the result of monsoonal influence. Very different than Spring and early summer afternoon thunderstorms. And yes, this is what Colorado's weather used to be always be like up to the 90's or so. Of course it also seldom hit 100 degrees and rarely had record number of days in the 90 degree range either.

I've been appreciating the afternoon thunderstorms, too. I've hardly had to water my garden at all this summer, and even on days when it doesn't actually rain here, the clouds and cooler temperatures outside in the afternoons keep it more comfortable inside my house, too.

On the other hand.... I just experienced the not-so-good side of all this rain. I was out for a bit just now doing some garden cleanup, and came in covered in mosquito bites. :-( Bah.
