Actually, our gang issue is getting worse. A couple months ago, our school had a CSPD gang specialist (I forget the name but can get it if need be) come in and debrief us on the newest things and warn us of the higher tension levels because of the number of Southern California gang members who are moving in and working on establishing thier power. According to him, COS gangs hadn't been too bad in the past, but CA "doesn't play games" (according to him).

Well there probably will be an increase in the number of gangs in Colorado Springs due to the fact that the population is growing alot. But I think thats just a part of being in a city. There is going to be gangs. There will always be people who want to join them. But in Colorado Springs I don't think gangs are a big problem.Yes there is some gangs here, but compared to most cities that are the same size or bigger, the gang problem isn't bad.

If you have Southern California hispanic gangs there then you have A BIG PROBLEM. I should know because i ran with one for many years. They will stop a nothing to take over your neighborhood. For everyone that dies or gets locked up they will send two more out there. If you see this "SUR13" tagged in your neighborhood lock the doors, call the cops and get a gun. These are just some friendly words of advice from someone who ran with them for many years.
ps. i am inactive now. |

Thanks Fiver, i'll keep that in mind. I'm rediculously paranoid, and for good reason. Now i'll be looking everywhere for that tag.

Crips, Bloods, Gangster Disciples, Latin Kings, several intergenerational hispanic gangs, and of course a bunch of small wannabe gangs. They're all here. There are about 54 or 55 known gangs in the CO Springs area but that's just the ones that have been identified. The vast majority stay low key and don't go around flying their colors.
. It's not Los Angeles or whatever but of course in a city of 400,000 there will be gangs. ![]() |

Criminal gangs controlled the western US in the late 1800s and were really little different from todays gangs in that they used violence and intimidation to prey on the weak and defenseless. Individuals who stood up to them, be they a local sheriff or citizen were usually ambushed and murdered. No laws, lawyers or judges changed that. It was the people getting fed up, organizing, and presenting a united force (posses and armed citizens groups) to eliminate them. It was the hangmans rope and bullet that brought law and order. Tolerance of the presence of criminal gangs allows them to exist. As long as we fear them and leave things to the other guy to deal with, they will thrive. The police are powerless due to restrictions placed upon them and the likelyhood of being sued for "civil rights" violations, losing their job and hard earned retirement (and the gangs will come after their families in reprisal). Our laws protect the criminals; we are on our own.

And ppl think i'm crazy for carrying a gun. I used to be a maintanance worker for the low income housing on the south side, and I can't tell you how many times i was almost robbed, and I was just trying to do my job. Not many of them have guns though, usually just knives and other hand weapons. I had to pull out my .380 a few times to scare off groups of gangs that surrounded my truck cause "I was in the wrong barrio"

Bloods and Crips was there when I was attending High School back in 1992-1995.
Trouble risen when California flocked this way. I lived in zip code 80906. If you was to wear RED, you will get a drive-by on you. So popular amount of people I was around was claiming to be crips. Straight dark blue. Damn those were some bad days. When I graduated in 95; I split from COS in 96. I felt it was a great move. I usually wore a Phoenix Suns jacket, jeans to school. I was not in a set / gang. It was heavy then and I am still its still pretty strong. |
