What would you do/see? Hubby and I are flying in late Sunday and leaving early Tuesday, which basically leaves Monday. He has his final interview Monday morning/afternoon, but after lunch we're free. We want to spend the day thinking, praying, reflecting on whether or not he should take the job and relocate our family to COS. Any suggestions on where to go?
Thanks in advance! |

I'd drive over to Garden of the Gods for a drive-through or short walk, then to downtown for lunch or dinner at one of the places on Tejon St (which I call the Street of Many Restaurants) or eat in Old Colorado City or Manitou Springs.
To see these places, go to the photo tours on the site: - Colorado Springs / Old Colorado City Photo Tour - Manitou Springs, CO -- Photo Tour |

Perform boots-on-the-ground inspections of the places you have analyzed for housing, shopping, doctors, schools, traffic. You should check out (I'm guessing) five to ten neighborhoods and use the internet to view 50-100 homes. Go check these neighborhoods out. Are there kids there (for your kids)? Do people park their cars on the lawns? How about doing some practice drives from high candidate neighborhoods to the place of employment and the schools? It might be a nice drive on a Sunday afternoon and a little worse on a Monday morning. Research highway and city planning. How might you feel about that new interchange or that new school or that new mall? You should know all these things before you move. Do you know where the child molesters are?
That's what I did before I moved to the Springs area. |

If you have school-age kids you should drive the neighborhoods in the district(s). The general consensus seems to be 12,20, & 38 are the more desireable districts. 20 & 38 are northern COS and Monument. 12 is on the southwestern side of town. You might even visit a school or two. If you can, make a list of homes from realty websites so you can see what you will have to pay in different areas. Get a portable GPS to assist you. It will cut down driving time a bunch. There are many acceptable nieghborhoods here that only you can tell if it's what you desire. We like trees and a little room, so we live in Monument. But we also get the most snow. Best of luck with your move.

Just around the bend is Cheyenne Mtn. Zoo, and taking a hike to the Will Rogers Shrine. Grew up in the 50's in the Springs-was a great place to grow up as a kid!
