Default Woodland Park - What Is There To Do For Teens?

As I have mentioned before, we are considering a move to WP. Right now our children our young, but I wonder about what Jr. High and High School kids do on the weekends or during summer? There is no mall and the movie theatre has only two screens and is not really a place to "hang out". I certainly don't want them going up and down the hill to the Springs all the time. Can those of you who have teens and live in WP please provide some guidance? Thank you.

I've hung out there when I was a teen. Not much to do but sneak around and drink beer. It does get rather boring.

Hmm. And I thought I was the only one. You can't even cruise Main any longer with all that stuff now. And gas prices!

I've known many families with teens that eventually move down to COS due to the lack of things to do in Woodland. This will not change in the near future without serious community involvement.

Be very careful of that place. The schools in Woodland Park are drug infested and possess huge discipline problems! I am a former school administrator in Colorado Springs. I can tell you that there are many places that I would place my kids other than there. It is a beautiful place, but the culture is different! I don't want to scare anybody away, it is what it is. I would send my kids to Manitou Springs before I would send them there!

About the town or community? You didn't ask.
About what there is for teens to do? You pretty much got your answer; not a lot.

I think your questions and concerns are totally legitimate. If you don't get answers from City-Data (and you may not simply because Woodland Park isn't that big and there aren't a lot of WP poster???), I suggest you call the City of Woodland Park and the School District. I would think they would have a closer feel for your questions.

I wouldn't give up just because there weren't great responses on this forum.

I grew up and lived (as a teen) in Woodland Park. I attended the WP school district through 8th grade until my parents sent me to a private high school in Colorado Springs with a much better track record of sending kids to college.

I resented it at first, but now I am at the top of my engineering program at a large university. Many of my friends who were right there with me all the way through 8th grade (and who I felt had every bit as much potential as me) eventually abandoned their own worth ethic and wound up in service jobs back in WP.

I do have to make the obligatory drug abuse comment for I feel that it was a big component of these capable teens' downfalls.

As for what there is for teens to do? Go to Colorado Springs pretty much sums it up -- I can't even count how many times weekend plans took us down there.
