Hello all,

My husband and I currently reside in Tulsa, OK and we are interested in moving...okay, we desperately want to leave Oklahoma more than anything. We have decided that we would like to move to Colorado Springs, if at all possible. We have both been applying for job after job for several weeks now. I even had a professional help me write my resume, and I have left my current address off of my resume and everything, and despite the fact that I am applying for several jobs in the springs every single day, I keep getting rejection emails or I otherwise do not receive any response. I am beyond frustrated and discouraged at this point. I have my bachelor's degree in graphic design, but I have a lot of career experience in working in fields like technical support, customer service, office management, financial aid, etc. and I have been applying for jobs that fit my qualifications. One thing that I have noticed is that a lot of job listings include the requirement "Must have valid Colorado State Driver's License" or something along those lines. Our lease at our apartment in Tulsa is up at the end of November, and we are really hoping to be able to move by then, but it is not looking good for us at all. What should we do at this point? Should we go ahead and move to Colorado before finding jobs? Would it be easier for us to find work when we finally have Colorado addresses and phone numbers? I would absolutely hate to leave my job here in Tulsa for such uncertainty, but it does not look like we are likely to find work before moving. Has anyone else experienced this? I would appreciate any help or advice.

Thank you for your time.

I was in colorado springs a few months age. I would say jobs are a bust right now. I saw a help wanted sign at a denny's resturant. The ad stated "experienced cook wanted. Must have 2-3 years experience cooking at dennys". When I saw that, I knew it was going to be a tough job market. I would says you would probably have better luck going there and "hitting the pavement" looking with your feet. It seems many people are trying to move there right now. Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

Ps if you are trying to look asap, check out Beckenridge and other ski resort mountain towns for temp jobs. It could get you buy till the snow melts.

There's other states in the west besides Colorado to check out. You shouldn't have to rely on one area, that's a problem.

I'm guessing a lot of places want someone local because they don't want to deal with relocation costs, or they need someone who can start right away.

I realize that. I am originally from New Mexico and I would love to go back there, but my husband does not feel the same way. We have ruled California, Arizona, and Utah out, but Nevada isn't off of the menu yet and we may look there. I have started to look at jobs in Washington and they seem to be a bit more welcoming there.

Re customer service -there are (or were) quite a few call center jobs here ... not sure what that's looking like now. You may want to consider signing up with several good-reputation temp agencies; there seems to be lots of office type work and tech work available on a regular basis. Many times those jobs can lead to full-time employment.

As suggested, signing up with Pikes Peak Workforce can help; once you sign up you can access this website for jobs: https://www.connectingcolorado.com/
