Keller Homes has a really good reputation but yes they are a bit more expensive. My next home will be a Vantage Home. Saddletree is also a very good builder. I would never build through Classic. We also have too many friends complaining. Richmond American is the other builder I would never build through. John Laing also seems like a good builder but a friend of ours do their electric wiring and said that they cut corners.

I don't think it matters what builder you choose, there could always be something to complain about. Classic Homes is from my experience the BEST builder in Colorado Springs, hands down. I've built 2 Classic homes in a row, and I haven't had any problems with either of them - and the couple minor things that came up were fixed immiediately by the builder. I've had a hard time finding much dirt on them. My next new home will be a Classic too.
Keller, Vantage, and Saddletree all have good reputations too. I think the key to all 4 of those builders (Classic included) is that they are locally owned companies. Here is a list of garbage to beware of: Lennar is the worst Richmond is a close 2nd Pulte John Laing (now owned by the country of Dubai) Beazer DR Horton |

We bought a beautiful Keller resale in Pine Creek and it is well-built. I found the quality in Keller to be very good and you can get a good deal on some of the resales right now. Many of the lots in Pine Creek are larger than Codera and Wolf Ranch so there is a bit more separation between homes - - if that is imortant to you. I think Saddletree builds some nice homes, too.

I disagree with John Laing being on the list of "garbage". John Laing is a fine builder and we have had no problems with our home. After building with two other builders (in two different areas), we were shocked that our "punch list" at closing walk-through with John Laing was 4 things. 4! And they were MINOR - maybe even things someone that wasn't picky wouldn't notice.
We highly recommend John Laing. We live in one in Meridian Ranch as do a lot of our neighbors. All happy! |

I forgot to add, we are military and new to COS. We have 5 friends in the area when we moved. 4 of them live in John Laing homes. The 5th is renting in Briargate since they won't live here long. All of us are happy with J.L.

I've been through a lot of houses in the last month here...my observation, from looking "under the hood" is that Keller, John Laing, & Vantage are above-average in the quality department. Pulte, Richmond, Horton, and Lennar are tract production builders and you'll see mass-produced average to below-average work there, especially recently, as the economic pressures affect quality.

I'm in a Keller. Love it. Had a great experience with the whole process, from a dusty lot to a finished home. Many Keller's on the market now, both new and resale homes.
Our neighbor across the street built a Heartview Home and he is NOT happy. The shower tile was done poorly, leaked, caused mold and mildew issues, and he was battling to get that covered, he had a lawyer involved at one point. He had other issues with the house, too. Keller, John Laing, Vantage, Classic, Acuff, Campbell, Symphony and a few others are the better ones here. AVOID mass production firms. Edit: BTW, Wolf Ranch is in a GREAT location, as is Cordera, Briargate, Pine Creek and Kettle Creek. |
