Born and raised in Southern CA (next door to Pasadena). Husband lost his video game designer job in the tech industry "recession" in 2001. SO FREAKIN' EXPENSIVE to live in CA. Couldn't afford to buy a house. Always talked about moving, figured the lay off was our sign. His parents are retired military in Colorado Springs. I got a job in Denver (within 2 weeks of looking) and we packed the UHaul, our 2 cars, our 3 cats and our 4 year old, and got here TWO DAYS before the wildfires started June of 2002. Now we have two great, layoff-proof (relatively) jobs here in the Springs, a fantastic house we could have never afforded in So Cal, a second child (1 year old Ben) and a 4th cat. Never moving again! Had to get used to the snow, but it didn't take too long.

I spent the majority of my childhood in a small copper town called Kearny, AZ. My parents moved us to Saguache, CO my senior year in HS. As soon as I graduated HS I moved up to Colo Sprgs and I never left. I have been in CO since 1994 and I now consider myself a local- 14 yrs baby! (I am only 30 yrs young.)

I went to UCCS to recieve my BA and 2 Masters degress along with my teaching certificate. I live in the Fountain area with my family- DH works at USAFA as a fireman and is also a graduate 2xs from UCCS, daughter 11 yrs, boys are 7 and 5yrs old. I work with at at risk teens at an alternitive high school as a special education teacher and have "connections" all over the city in every district due to my many years at UCCS.

Crud..what was the original question? Where did you come from and what else? I feel like I am writing a biography or something! Oh well... I LOVE COLORADO!!

Default From Ohio and Florida

I lived in Ohio for 30 years but came here from Florida. It is ok here, I find the air is way to dry. It feels like stale air to me. I recently went on vacation and the first thing i thought getting off the plane was i could actually get a breath of fresh moist air. Other than the air it is nice here.

Moved here from Boston, grew up in Philly. Never moving back. The east coast is dead to me. Only thing I miss is the food and that can be shipped in by relatives too obstinate or unlucky to still be living back east. People from Cali complain about our winters but they are nothing compared to New England. Wish I hadn't wasted so much time there.

Smile From Tenn and NJ

Grew up in Tennessee, lived in NJ for the last 32 years. We decided that we could never afford to retire in NJ, and that we'd rather escape before the kids all grew up and moved out. We chose COS on the basis of 1) scenic beauty both locally and within a day's drive, 2) cost of living and taxes, 3) availability of jobs, 4) general friendliness and hospitality, and 5) not incompatible with our religious (evangelical) and political (conservative) views. I gave work 6 months notice, and they persuaded me to stay another year in NJ in return for keeping me on as a long distance employee after we move. Can't ask for a better deal than that. Bought a house last summer, are renting it out, and will move into it Aug. We (and our five kids) are really looking forward to starting a new life in COS.

Tom and Karen from NJ

Default Hoosier Daddy!!!

I was raised in Fort Wayne, IN, where I remained until I was 21, joined the Navy, went to Pensacola, Biloxi, and then Kaneohe Bay, Oahu for five years. Left there in 05 moving down to Key West to stay with Navy friend, got car destroyed by hurricane, and miss my mountains, and about to move out to the Springs. It's just saving the money to leave the Keys is hard. It's 1000 miles just to Mobile from here!

In 2005, had the geo shipped to Cali, drove it all the way cross country through Cali, Arizona, and Colorado along 160 to 25 and then Denver to see a friend. Got real sad upon entering flat-land! This year, bought a truck in San Diego and drove it back to Key West, via Vegas, Denver, then down through Mississippi to I-10. It was a beautiful drive and I fell in love again with the mountains...Decided it was time to get back to them.

See ya soon COS! rent is due right now...sigh!
Key West was surely no Hawaii...Cheaper in da real islands cuz...NO KIDDING!

I spent my first 19 years in Santa Clarita, CA. I went to San Diego for a short while and then moved to Del Rio, TX for a few years. Back to San Diego for a few years and then back to Del Rio for a couple of years and then back to CA - bakersfield and Santa Clarita again for about 6 years. Santa Clarita was my "home" but it no longer seems like it because it had changed and grown so much I don't even recognize it any more. And then the biggest mistake was a move to Greenville, MS the worst place ever to live. I was there about 7 years and then to Selmer, TN for 3 and now hopefully my last move to Colorado Springs - 31/2 weeks now. Sounds like military doesn't it but it's not. I guess I was just a mixed up child.
