Moving to COS from Northern VA
I will be moving with the wife and kid(s) [twins on the way!] to Colorado Springs this weekend. Well, I'm driving and they are flying. Guess who won the coin toss?
We currently live just outside of DC and have been here for 8 years. I had the opportunity to work a project long-term in COS and jumped all over it. Visited a few weekends ago to find a rental house and was pleasantly surprised by the city overall. It definitely felt a lot smaller than DC, but that was expected and a welcome change. The scenery is unreal and every person I came across seemed friendly and welcoming...though some wonder about the move from DC to a place like COS.
We decided it's a big country and it was time for an adventure. Sometimes it's easy to settle in a place and create roots. Other times it's better to venture out and see life outside of the rat race which is DC.

Welcome Hooligan, I just turned down 2 very good job offers in DC. I sat down and did my pros/cons list and I just couldn't leave here to go to the plastic palace as I call it. You'll love it here.

My mothers womb?
In all seriousness, I was born and raised here. I have some issues with the place politically and culturally... but I'm also someone who believes that your life is what you make of it. The quality of life here is pretty darn good, and I've always felt that Colorado Springs is teaming with potential. We're lacking in leadership from the business community and city hall right now, but I'd like to think that will change at some point. Anyway, I'm single at this point, but I stay because my extended family is here and I would be lost without them... and because I've always felt a certain loyalty to this place. It's home, even if it does mean I have to constantly fend off over the top attacks from my fellow Democrats in other city's ::cough:: DENVER ::cough:: who take one truth about this town and try to make it the whole truth. I still think Colorado Springs has a bright future.
I love Denver, but I couldn't spend my whole life trying to explain to people that being from Colorado Springs doesn't automatically make you a James Dobson follower.

By the time I was 17 my parents figured we'd moved 32 times...various places in South Dakota and Wyoming then to Yuma, AZ then to various places in North County in S. CA where I lived from age 10 to 34. (No, we were not military.) I'm 53 now, and must have kept a little of the gypsy blood because we moved from S. CA to South Dakota to CO to SD and back to the Springs. We've lived here since '97. We moved here because of unsolicited job offers we couldn't afford to refuse. We originally moved from S. CA because we didn't want to raise our children there; we wanted them to have a more "Leave It To Beaver" environment to grow up in. They had that in S. Dakota while they were little; then we moved to the Springs when they were in Middle School....the perfect time for them to get out of S.D. and into the D20 school system here. It has all worked out great, we love the Springs but we do miss the beach. Our family is in S. CA and S. Dakota. We have no family here, that is the most difficult thing...on the other hand, sometimes it is a good thing!

I came to Colorado Springs in September of 07 . I came from 26 years of living in Kentucky . Big change from the people , to of course the weather . I think its great out here , but the people are not as kind and caring as they are in Kentucky . Ive met alot of nice people out here , and alot of stuck up people . We came here because of the military , I love the mountains , and love the weather . I wish I could ship the mountains , and the weather over to Kentucky , and make my life there though again lol .

I moved out here 5 weeks ago from southern AZ (6 1/2 yrs). We lived in a nice little town but HOT. My husband came here often for work, he told me all about the place, we took our vacation here. I felt at home from the start. I spent a good part of my life in a military town in AL a good place to live but HUMID. I feel like COS is just like home all the friendly people, good place to have your family, wonderful old neighborhoods, enough things to do to keep you out of trouble The weather has been fabulous. I like this city and the people it's just like my home town only dry cool air. One thing to new folks looking to move here don't be afraid of living in the downtown and surrounding areas and fixing up an old beauty of a home, that whole thing about judging a book by it's cover comes to mind. Oops, I do talk a lot. Guess it's more like my 12 cents worth.

Nothing wrong with being a James Dobson follower.
