Reading with interest, as I also put in the 200 amp service, the shutoff switch, the pad, etc. But still haven't decided to pull the trigger & buy one. As I get older, it's harder for me (I'm rather vertically challenged), to get in & out of them & I wonder if it's worth it. Hope to read some more experiences.

As with many things, it varies. Age of the hot tub, its insulation level, the quality of the cover, the efficiency of its heating system, and programming capability of its control system are key factors that help make the argument for buying a newer hot tubs vs one someone never took care of and is trying to avoid disposal costs by selling on craigslist.

Ask what the amp load the tub needs and you can estimate it reasonably close.

I've had a hot tub for so long, I don't recall a time without it on my bill. Even when we would turn it down in the summer, a/c usage tended to offset any savings we saw because of the lower hot tub heat.
