The Big Bend area is indeed a beautiful area of Texas. As is the Hill Country. And there are other areas that while not as eye appealling, are decent places to live. Sorry, Houston isn't. Its a chemical dumping ground. Proof of that was after about a 4 hour flight through the Houston area and I could take my finger and wipe the leading edge of my wings or rotor blade and literally wipe off the scuz aquired from the air. About the only thing Houston has going for it is the rodeo and the restaurants. I would no more think about raising my kids in that filth than I would allow them to dring from a toilet bowl. Have fun. Last edited by suzco; 04-02-2008 at 06:33 PM. Reason: No personal attacks |

[mod cut] by saying Houston is a just a chemical dumping ground. I take it you didn't even look at JJP's post in the list of amenties Houston has to offer. Houston is a world-class city by its museums, sports facilities, urban renewal, theatre district, and more. Tell me if Houston is so much worse than CO, why are there more people in living in the Houston metro area than the whole state of Colorado? Why are there over 20 million tourist per year that come to shop and visit the Houston Galleria alone? Why was Houston the 9th most visited city in the U.S in the most recent years? Why is Houston known from all parts of the world to establish the 3rd number of Foreign consulates in the U.S? Why does Houston and all of Texas still continue to add the most jobs and still holding the title as the most Corporate relocations? Why does Houston area alone continue to add on average 100,000 people each year since the year 2000 while Colorado almost remains stagnant in growth? Certainly not because Houston's just only the humid concrete wasteland dump that you say it is. Take care. Last edited by suzco; 04-02-2008 at 06:38 PM. Reason: no personal attacks |

More jobs simply. You can't compare the two in any meaningful way. Houston is an oppressive city with traffic snarls from hell. High crime, polution, everything that big US cities have. But it is the center for the Texas oil and gas industry, is a port city, has NASA and on and on. You can easily find work in Houston and maybe even afford to buy property on your wages. That doesn't make it a nice place to live, however. Quality of life is what Colorado offers, but you probably ought to bring money with you. Jobs are not nearly as easy to find as in Houston.

Well Houston is a bigger city with more jobs, but that's not the only reason why one may like Houston over Colorado. You can't speak for everybody and say that everybody would rather live in Colorado. I know plenty of people who say Colorado is a beautiful place but they could never live there simply because it doesn't offer much of the city options and limited programs that most cities offer.
And as far as the quality of life claim, Colorado may have been a great place for qality of life but ever since the 90s, the place has been suffering from a lot of things that the big cities have. Colorado Springs is no stranger to sprawl, crime, traffic congestion (worse city in the U.S. with traffic for a city of its size), and lack of mass transit options. It does however still have clean air and water but that's not the only measure for quality of life my friend. Some people want to beable to go downtown and see a broadway show, have more shopping options without having to drive 70 miles north, some like to see art and museum districts. My point is, not everyone has the same standards and desires as you. Different Strokes for Different folks. |

It is ridiculous to talk about Houston like every part of it is just like every other part. Houston is huge. We live in Sugar Land and we love it. It is much prettier in Sugar Land than in many parts of Colorado Springs, even factoring in the mountain view. And there are parts of Colorado Springs that are downright gorgeous compared to the ugly parts of Houston. It is tough to compare cities that are such different sizes. Houston has a lot to offer simply because it is so large. We lived in Colorado Springs for a year and we were miserable. The winter was awful (several blizzards the year we were there and I was snowed in with two small children while my husband was snowed in somewhere else). We were constantly driving to Denver for dining, shopping, entertainment, and a progressive church. Then when the snow closed I-25 we felt totally stranded. I'm sure the summers in Houston won't be a picnic but at least you don't have to shovel humidity. We are happy to live in Houston and take vacations in Colorado. Friends who go hiking every single weekend in Colorado would never want to live in Houston. It really depends on what is important to a family.

Hmm... could it be some people actually like Houston, and it offers an huge number of positives few here want to admit? Not one of you making the negative remarks appear to live in Houston now, or in the recent past. Maybe you should open your minds a little to what residents say. Who knows, you may actually learn something. |
