So this thread is helping me too! We currently live in Grapevine, TX ... about 10 minutes from Flowermound. My brother has lived in FM with his family for about 13 years. I'm born and raised Texan...soon to move to Colorado and SCARED to death!
Trying to decide on a city and I like what I am hearing and reading about COS. We have 2 kids, ages 7 and 9....and 2 dogs...hoping that there is more for them to do in CO than we can do in TX. Especially during the summer, where yes....all you do is go from AC to AC and in and out of the swimming pool! |

^^^ You probably wouldn't be disappointed because Colorado has some of the best summer weather IMO.

Txspamom,
you will love it here! We also moved from TX to Col Springs. We have 3 young kids and 2 dogs. If you like the outdoors - then you will truly enjoy the climate here! The summers can still get hot..but it is a dry heat...also, it cools down in the nights. The mornings and evenings are very pleasant - the kids love to bike, play with the dogs, go to parks...and enjoy swimming at our local club (we are glad they still get to enjoy outdoor swimming during the summer school break!). There is lots to do in Colorado Springs....zoo (handfeed the giraffes , Garden of Gods, Seven Falls, US Olympic Sport Center, parks, etc etc - Denver is only one hour North and you have some great museums there (Science Museum, Aquarium, etc) and also Six Flags etc etc. Here in Col Springs we are within 30 mins in the mountains There is fishing, hiking, etc. This is a very family friendly area and we are so glad to call it our new home! We have met other families from Texas...and no one regrets their move ![]() Good Luck! |

I moved here from Texas and do not regret it for a minute. Only thing I miss about Big Ol' Texas is the Tex-Mex, and BBQ (though there are a couple here that are pretty good, Slayton's).

Also try Howard's Pit off Fillmore and I-25 (Colo Spg) and Sam taylor's in Denver. Sam Taylor BBQ is better than anything i've had in Texas.

The biggest single difference, I think, between Texas and Colorado is OPEN SPACE! Colorado has a lot of open space set aside for the use and enjoyment of everyone. Texas doesn't. For me, that is a deal breaker.
One size does not fit all. I don't feel the need to trash Texas because Colorado is a better fit for me. I love to visit the Hill Country region of Texas. It's beautiful and has many things to offer. For me, I will keep it in my 'nice place to visit' category. Colorado Springs was voted the most pet friendly city. We have many dog parks. We have great bike and hiking trails. I've gone white water rafting many times. And the diversity of the state is amazing. Many of my vacations are spent without leaving Colorado. Look for the lesser known and often overlooked places...Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Glenwood Hot Springs, just to name a few. Come and enjoy! You'll fit right in! ![]() |

We have lived in Colorado Springs for almost 9 years and are looking at moving to a better climate. Here is a few points that I would like to mention. I haven't been able to read all the previous posts so excuse me if I am repeating things.
* Yes we have wonderful Summers here but it lasts 4 months max. The rest of the time you are pretty much confined to your house and the inside of buildings unless you enjoy being cold. * We have two boys and it is killing us to raise them indoors for most of the year. * We don't enjoy any Winter sports so we find that there is not much to do in CS. Yes the outdoors is great in the Summer but what about the long Winter period if you do not ski (which is only a weekend activity that costs quite a bit to do)? * CS is VERY conservative So it all depends on what your idea is of good quality of life. For us it is having the kids play outside for most of the year. Good luck with your decision! |

I have to admit that I am more active then I was when I lived in CoS (now in TX). We really don't have winters. I compare them to CoS as Summer and Spring, maybe fall here in considered winter. What stinks about living in TX is that we don't have 4-seasons, no snow and I never seen it get less then 25 degrees. Most of our winter is maybe 30 degrees and ice over for about 2-5 days a year (last year NADA) and that's it. We basically swim all year long here and all sorts of outdoor activities. Now the summer hear is little bit hot, but that is due to the humidity. Humidity is not really bad, it just takes some time getting used to (I came from CoS). Now that I look at it, humidity feels great to my skin and I really have no need for body lotion as I needed when living in CO. |
