Anyone know why the Thunderbirds are flying around today? Seeing them up over the Palmer Divide around 7pm.

Looks like they must have been here for the kick off of the Warrior Games at the Air Force Academy. Cool.

Are you sure they were Thunderbirds? I saw what looked like an F18 Hornet or two buzzing around in the afternoon of the 3rd. Certainly could have been in support of the Warrior Games.

No, I am not sure they were the Thunderbirds, but there were 4 loud planes, flying in formation, going around multiple times, appeared to be over Air Force Academy area and foothills.

That time of year again. Thunderbirds will be performing at USAFA graduation on May 30. President is speaking this year, so expect road closures and traffic problems. Get to a viewing spot early if you can.

Yea, AFA graduation could be a bit messy this year. The free tickets were gone in minutes. I went the year when the first Bush addressed the Cadets. Traffic was messy, security was tight, and this was all pre 9/11.

At the other end of the spectrum, Oprah is the keynote speaker at Colorado College's May 19th graduation this year. Unlike the public ceremony at the AFA, this commencement is private but will be live streamed. Since Cascade is blocked for this event, traffic in that part of town will be messy as well.

Hope no one is expecting guests over those two weeks as hotels will be pretty booked up and space at a premium.

Default Today is the day

https://gazette.com/military/air-for...a7bedd637.html

"The graduation will conclude with an Air Force Thunderbirds flyover and demonstration, expected to begin at about 1:30 p.m. The twisting and turning F-16s create a spectacle over the stadium and can be watched through much of northern Colorado Springs.

That means distracted drivers on the interstate and other roads. If you want to watch the Thunderbirds, head north and find a safe place to park for the show. If you stop on I-25 for bird-watching you’ll get to meet an angry state trooper."

In past years, we've watched the Thunderbirds by setting up a lawn chair in a vacant lot near Voyager and Interquest Parkway.

A below average short show this year. Practice Tuesday was better.

Short show was because something happened to one of the planes after the initial flyby.
