Yes, and the kids get a free laptop to use for school.

Im a soon to be Fountain resident! We are headed to Fort Carson and found a decent place to live in Fountain. Priced closer to our BAH and not such a long drive to the base. Its wonderfull to read that the area we picked is a good area. I still would like a little bit more info. Does the farmers market run all year? What does the city of Fountain have? Do they do parades? Are there county fairs? What about parks to take my children to? Thanks

Fountain itself does not have a county fair as far as I know, but I've never lived there, only in the Pueblo area, which isn't far. The State fair is in Pueblo though every August.

I dont get the issue with Fountain either, we have been here for three months and I feel safe here while my husband is deployed. I have all of the day to day shopping needs close by. We have very quick and easy access to Ft Carson and COS. I have seen some run down areas in the older part of town but what town doesnt have that, and they dont look scary, just run down. I agree that Fountain has a bad rep it doesnt deserve and it must be a well kept secret from too many people unwilling to drive in this direction.
I havent been here long enought to know about all the ammenities but we did attend the Christmas event by the city hall in the downtown part of Fountain and it was a great small town feel. Hayrides and santa, a few people set up tables selling baked goods and crafts and a stage of kids singing Chritmas songs.

For the high school in Fountain, I dont know first hand, mine are still in the elementary and middle schools here but the high school is very intimidating. I have never seen a high school so big! I heard about the laptops and that is great but its HUGE!

The thing I love the most about Colorado is all the parks and Fountain has some great ones too. I know we havent even come close to finding all of them yet but we have found a nice one on Hwy85 with a little pond and a great open area and walking path and another with a dog park near city hall.

I can't wait to check it out. What is the weather like in July? We are coming from Germany and last July I had to still wear a sweatshirt and even the Hood with it because my easr got cold. A lot of people are telling me that Colorado is colder but I can't belive that.

I think Colorado Springs feels warmer than Germany in the Winter (lived in Heidelberg and Kaiserslautern). The sun always seems to be out in the Springs. You will want good sunglasses in the Winter!

P.S.: July highs can be 70's to 90's in Colorado Springs but the end of the day is always cooler as the sun sets behind the mountains.

It does look huge and intimidating but it isnt bad. If you go in and ask for a tour, you will see that there are two hallways. The one shorter hallway is a new addition to the building. Being a D8 employee, we have our new teacher orientations, welcome back breakfasts, trainings, seminars, and other things held in the building and it really isnt that bad inside. Please go in sometime and see it.

Ftn's farmer market is not open year round, we just don't have the growing season.

Ftn parks: Aga Park which is down by downtown Ftn, just north of it. Fountain Creek Regional (very popular), Metcalf (has a lot of city events there), Hibbard which is located in the Heritage neighborhood, Fountain Mesa Park by exit 132, Conley park which is back behind fire station 2 off of Ftn Mesa Rd., Lindamood Park (in the old run down part of town), and Mayor's Park which hosts the water fountain and caboose (no play structures).

We do have local parades and other city events. As you have probably noticed, the city puts forth a lot of effort to communicate with the public (the sign by station 2 inviting you to the meeting about exit 128).

The garden next to fire station 2 is a public garden. The organization called Live Well invites the public to come and take part of creating the garden and to reap the benefits of it. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you the next flyer I get via email and you can be added to their mailing list.

Every spring there is a city wide clean up. This means you go through your garage and backyard and put all that junk you don't want on the curb on a certain day and the city comes by and picks it up for you (in the past, free of charge).

We do have a YMCA, not as nice as the others but we do have one. It is located at the Lorraine Center.

Our library is part of the PPLD and brand new. Please check it out.
