I am interested in retiring in Colorado for its weather, beauty, and outdoor life. I am considering such places as Colorado Springs, Loveland and Littleton. How many months of the year can a person swim comfortably outdoors in Colorado Springs?

3-4 months max. most lakes in COLO are manmade and often very cold due to holding snow runoff.

If outdoor swimming in lakes is a biggie for you then you'll be rather disappointed in COLO.

Very few outdoor pools in COLO due to the short season.

In the Colo Spgs area, outdoor public pools are only open Memorial Day to Labor day. There are numerous indoor pools available year round both public and private clubs.

My personal pool I can extend the season from early May to mid October with solar heaters.

There is only one lake in Colo Spgs available for swimming. It's seasonal schedule is the same as outdoor pools.

Most lakes and reservoirs along the front range tend to be pretty cool temp wise and many people use wet or dry suits in them. Pueblo and Lathrop are probably the warmest lakes closest to the mountain ranges, otherwise you are traveling about an hour east to get into truly moderately warm water.

Loveland and Littleton have access to more outdoor water than Colo Spgs.

If you're from somewhere with lakes and swimming holes; and creeks, rivers and reservoirs that are open to swimming all summer long, you'll miss being able to do that here. I love Colorado, but I miss outdoor swimming in comfortable-temperature waters. Swimming outdoors in Colorado isn't easily doable.
