My family will be on a rare road trip in July. We will be staying in Manitou Springs. Our one full night there will be my husband's 50th birthday.

I'm looking for recommendations for a really fun, really good restaurant in the Colorado Springs area. This and only this time money is not a problem. We will not have fancy clothes. We will be clean but not dressed to impress (think jeans and a nice T-shirt...it's a long, many states road trip).

Looking for something special. Please advise!

Thanks!!

My vote would be for 1858 at the Seven Falls.

This place looks interesting. I'd like to try it. Easy access with parking? What did you find best about this place?

It is in the Seven Falls, so you park at the Seven Falls shuttle lot and get a shuttle over. Entrance to the park is $14. You can walk up to the restaurant - a very nice, pretty walk, or you can ride a trolley to it.

The food is good - I've been there a few different times and the menu varied a bit but they have the best trout I've ever had and other good stuff if you're not a fish person. Plus, the restaurant is right at the base of the falls. So, I think the location adds to the 'fun'/'special' bit.

Cliff House, Craftwood, and Briarhurst are a little more upscale than jeans and a t-shirt. Mona Lisa you would be comfortable in that attire. Red Mountain Cafe maybe. Stagecoach Inn would work. Crystal Park Cantina also.

Or head oeast nto Old Colo City and go to Paravacini. They are awesome and casual. Tapateria or Wobbly Olive are nice. Jake and Telly's greek is fun. Or a little fourther east of OCC is English Dockside.

I'd second that one.

Their trout dish was exceptional. The setting adjacent to the creek and pond was relaxing.

As for parking, park near The Golden Bee and take the shuttle.

I have to admit, though I've never been, this looks interesting.

Another unique experience can be found at Edelweise. Authentic German food in a Bavarian setting with an awesome desert menu.

Since the entrance fee is $14, I'd assume that diners go to the restaurant as well as to see the Seven Falls? I doubt that people go there to pay the entrance fee just to go to that restaurant?

I think most people also see the falls - they are right there, after all. But I think some people do sometimes go mainly for the dining. When I've been there there has definitely been a mix of clientele where some were clearly there for the sights and some were pretty dressed up and seemingly mainly there for the restaurant. Also, it is a Broadmoor restaurant and I think hotel guests make reservations there and get shuttled over from the hotel and maybe the entrance fee is included in their hotel package or something - I don't know.
