been noticing almost everyday has been 80+ degrees. My lettuces are starting to bolt late in the season and even the newer ones wilted way down due to the heat. I dont remember September being so high in heat the last few years

Yesterday was a record high in Colorado Springs. Many people get lulled by the late August cool down that often happens and think it is permanent for the season, but we typically do get some hot days in September. 80s is not unusual, but hitting 90 yesterday was a little unusual although may be more the norm in the future given climate change.

Yes and no. Sept and Oct tend to be a bit dryer. We are above normal though and don't see a cool down until the first of next week. Have lived here 10 years. September can be warm at times with cool fronts. Our first freeze is usually around Oct. 1st. So, yes, there can be dry periods in the fall, which are actually common in this area. Interrupted by sometimes a cold wave, brief snows in Oct. and Nov. (sometimes big) then back to sunny and mild.

FWIW, the year I relocated here (2010) there was a hot spell in mid-September. Looking at the historical data on wunderground, I see it hit 90 degrees on September 17, 19, and 20 that year. So I kinda thought this kind of fall weather was "normal" all along. ;-)
