I don't object to my money going to taxes if I feel there is accountability and transparency for what tax money is going to. That whole "Well, the government has misplaced a few trillion bucks. Possibly in our pockets, we're not really sure." thing should not fly ever. I wish there were some sort of a strictly independent third party agency, not connected or beholden to those they are there to oversee, invulnerable to corruption and illegal to bribe, that would pick over spending of tax funds with a fine tooth comb at all times.

While I don't disagree with the second point, raising property taxes on lower income people who own homes could be harmful too.

Possibly but there is a world of difference between a renter and someone who owns a house. I'm not saying this will happen though sadly I don't control the government of the springs yet...
