Do you think the city does enough for the handicapped. I ask because of two things I have seen recently. On one hand the city just settled a law suit with a handicapped person because they are not doing enough, fast enough. On the other hand I see a huge amount of money being spent to make every sidewalk and intersection meet the latest ADA standards.

There are people who go around the country filing lawsuits based on the ADA, it's a cottage industry. Some of it is legit, some of it just blackmail....pay us and we'll go away.

I think if you had a disability and needed to get around this city, particularly if you needed to get around as a pedestrian, in a wheelchair, or rely on public transportation, etc., you'd find it pretty challenging. I think that is true in most places. When they redo those sidewalks it benefits all of us anyway - they've been slowly redoing ones in my neighborhood over the past 3 years or so - before that they hadn't been done since they were initially put in in the 50s, except for a few updated in the 70s. It is infrastructure investment just up to newer standards. That's ultimately a pretty good thing in many cases.

60 Minutes did a story about those lawsuits

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minu...derson-cooper/

Slimy lawyers are always looking for opportunities to blackmail those with deep pockets.

I agree that updated infrastructure is good. But somewhat wasteful in places. I've seen newer sidewalks with ramps ripped out to update to the latest guidelines.
