Default Crown Hill Mesa

I'm curious about this neighborhood in Colorado Springs. I like the fact that this area is close to Bear Creek Regional Park and the city. It looks like crime is pretty low in this area and they have some beautiful newer homes. They do look like they're pretty close to one another though. Do any of you locals have any opinions on this area? I've read online that Gold Hill Mesa is being built on top of mine tailings. Is this also true for Crown Hill Mesa? From what I've read, that would be a BAD thing.

Thanks!

I googled this search string, exactly as you see it inside the brackets: ["Crown Hill Mesa" +Colorado +mining] and got quite a few hits.

This is the Urban Renewal Plan for the area, with map on page 10, and it sure looks like this is the mountain of mine tailings that they plan to somehow make livable....I believe with an earthen cap about six feet deep. Right now, nothing grows on that stuff, just pulverized rock and not amenable to plant life. A good realtor will know for sure. http://www.springsgov.com/units/Plan.../GHMURPLAN.pdf

This area has arsenic in the soil. It is yard is line so you can grow flowers but cannot grow anything that you can eat. Like a garden. It is due to the mining in the area and the sludge coming off the mining. There are plenty of new homes there but you need to think of resale.

I think that if you should think of Moving to Gold hill mesa you should go to the old Colorado City history site (Gold Hills Cycle mill) and check out the photos and read the history of where you are planning to buy your future home. Yes it is being built on tailing but they have forgotten to mention the cyanide leach ponds that were theren (which they covered orginal with 6 inchs of soil) I have been a long time resident of the area and I can tell you before they started cover the ground it looked like the surface of Mars nothing grew there period. Where they got photos of plant groth there only they know.Don't believe me check out it history

Default Crown Hill Mesa

Hello. I stumbled on your interest in this area. I own a home there and have had no problems whatsoever. The city forced cleanup and honestly, if you look anywhere around the area you have issues from past military and mining operations. The strip mining continues on the NW side of town. I can grow a beautiful yard too! The area is great. No one has been sick from my knowledge. I was looking to buy another home there this month. As for value, the resale is awesome. I have over 100K equity in 4 years! Gold hill is the newest addition and it's a mixed community with NO yards. The garages are all to the rear. It's costly too! I don't care for townhomes mixed with SFR. They are talking about condos and possibly a apartment setup over there somewhere. Crown hill is all SFR. The lots are 5500-11000 sq feet but you will never find a newer housing area with anything larger unless you go Broadmoor and pay $300K for the lot itself. I love the place!
