New Comer
Just accepted a postion in N COS. About 100k per year. I am 45, single, male, climb, mtn bike, and drive 4wd. I am looking for nice area to rent or purchase small cabin/house near the mountains. Want to be out of the city and find a back way to work. Manitou Springs? I only spent one day in town during my visit and can only remember the garden, big churches, and lots of traffic.

Manitou Springs to Northern COS might be a little more commute than you'd want but if you are set on living in the mountains you are going to have to commute.
There is also Palmer Lake and the region west of there; It is closer but it really isn't in the mountains (Manitou isn't really in the mountains either).
Consider renting something close to your work for a while so you can get familiar with the region and traffic patterns and decide if living in the mountains is truly what you want. It sounds nice and rustic and "so Colorado", but it might not be realistic.

Careful, I like single men around 45 who like to do outdoor activities and really like to 4X4!
< grin > Not an advertisement for my own status as a 40 yo single female...
Nevermind.
Anyhow, It really depends on what you want in commute times. Manitou is not very "isolating" and the further up Ute Pass (Green Mountains Falls and such) the longer your commute. C Springs doesn't have the best east-west routes so from Manitou and points up Ute Pass you really want to go from 31st street to either Garden of the Gods Road to I-25 or head from 31st to Centennial to Vindicator to Woodmen to I-25 or where ever you need to go.
Palmer Lake and Monument might offer you more opportunities (given your income) to have a bit more of a small town feel but still a quick drive to where your employer is. There are some good trails and you are also a hop, skip and a jump to Denver if you like more than what C Springs has to offer.
Just a few thoughts this rainy afternoon.

LOL, I don't care about money. For all I care the guy could work part-time at minimum wage as long as he can support himself.

Does this turn you on COFlower?
Too bad I'm not single.
Seriously though trailerpup, if you like to 4x4 and have a Jeep, there's a bunch of us Jeep owners that do some day and longer trips around here. Let me know if you have a Jeep and when you get here, we'll keep you posted on where and when we have trips planned.

Actually, I like trucks but that's fun too.
You guys are cracking me up this night!
Seeing as I have a Honda Accord, anything that can go four-wheeling is good for me. I miss my big a$$ Chevy, Extended cab, Long bed, 4X4, 454 with a manual transmission...
Now I am just getting sad except for the gas situation. I probably could easily fill that puppy for $100. Easily.

Well, I do have the Hemi in this one. And I feel it at 11mpg. Too bad when Chrysler took Jeep over, they lost their minds and put a 19 gallon tank in this thing.
Last post for the night I think. Got a tri-tip on the BBQ outside I gotta watch.
