I've lived in the Colorado Springs area for over 27 years, but I'm also very familiar with Greeley, as I helped a friend of mine buy a house there.

Colorado Springs has grown immensely over the last 25 years; and the biggest challenge I see is that the road system hasn't kept up with the growth. But it's still a gorgeous place to live.

The city of Colorado Springs has a good web site, where you can find all type of info about the city; including the crime stats. Crime is fairly low in the city, there are better areas than others.

I moved from So Cal to CS last August with my wife and 3 young boys. We moved mostly to be able to afford a house which we couldn't in San Diego and live in a good environment. If your concerns are crime and polution I can say you don't need to worry about that in CS. Of course like all cities crime does exist but from my perspective overall it's a safe city. Pollution is almost non existent. Traffic is also ridiculously light compared to So Cal. I can't speak for Greeley as I've never been there but I can say so far my experience living in CS has been good.

If you can do it I would encourage you to come visit, spend some time, drive around the city and ask yourself if you could live here. We did that a few times before we moved and it helped me know a little more what to expect. This message board also helped me make the decison.

I'll completely agree here. Moved from Orange County in September 2006. Crime in COS is nothing compared to what you have going on there. I still laugh at the California 2 hour long car chases on the news here locally. Never really see that here. I think for the most part, you see domestic violence, bar fights and some drug stuff. So, hopefully you get along with whoever you're going to be with, that takes care of that. Don't go to roughneck bars or expect the possibility of trouble. Duh. Do you do drugs??

Traffic. Wow. People complain about traffic here. Live for a week in SoCal. You'll think every day here is a holiday. With the exception of snowy days anyway. I remember SoCal traffic. 30-45 minutes to go 10 miles. A lot of people commuted 25-45 miles, so think about that.

Used to be, plan a nice Saturday or Sunday to go down to La Jolla or San Diego to eat and do other things and I'd be there in a little over an hour. Today, it takes an hour and a half. On a weekend!

Oh well. Just saying...
