I guess they use mag chloride here, which isn't too bad, considering the shape of all the cars around here. ANd being an auto tech, i'm thrilled at the lack of rust under all the vehicles I work on. It makes my job so much easier.

Being from Ohio myself, surely you have heard of Ziebart. Have your car Ziebarted and salt doesn't affect it. It's great stuff and I used to swear by it when I lived there.
The Magnesium Chloride is junk IMHO. Sure, it helps roads to "resist" icing. But in the meantime, before the snow and ice comes, it makes the roads more slippery for 24 hours prior to the storm.
