So, what is the deal with the Powers Blvd. extension? When are they planning to put it in? Will there be attempts to reduce noise?

Any info is appreciated!

I just found this website and had to register just so I could reply to this thread! Hello everyone!

First off, Powers: those two articles are 5 and 6 years old. I also live in Flying Horse, and the sales people at the Classic Models have been told by their higher-ups that since the city has run out of money, they're projecting the START of Powers construction to be sometime in the next 6-20 years.

Like Rosie, I love living in Flying Horse! Yeah, our lots are on the small-side, but they're bigger than other new subdivisions like Cordera. I live in one of the "lower-end" subdivisions, Village at Saratoga, so we don't have the bigger lots with the multi-million dollar homes either, but the views are fantastic! We had front-row seats to the Thunderbirds' practices all weekend long.

We were one of the first to move into our neighborhood a year ago, and have never felt a "keeping up with the Joneses" attitude at all. We're up to about 20-ish neighbors, so we've really gotten a chance to get to know most of them. I know once the neighborhood fills in, that won't necessarily be the case. In fact, I'm currently pregnant with twin girls and a few of the neighbors threw me a baby shower recently. I'm still in awe at the generosity of our neighbors! We received gifts from every single current neighbor, and several who are still in the building process and have never even met us! This is exactly the type of neighborhood I envisioned raising my kids in. I have made some great friends here.

And the club! The club is gorgeous! Rosie did a great job describing the club, so I won't add too much to it. My husband goes 3x a week to workout, and my 3.5 year-old absolutely loves going with him so can go to the "Kids Cabin," their child watch area. What's really neat about the outdoor pool is that a small part of it is indoors next to the hot tub, so in winter you don't have to go outside in the cold to get in.

Yes it's way on the north end of town, but I wouldn't say it's out of the way at all, especially with all the commercial development going on in the area. The new movie theater Rosie mentioned is the Hollywood Theater, which is part of the upcoming InterQuest Marketplace, a 155-acre shopping area. Down the street from it will also be another huge shopping area with another (Cinemark) theater and a waterpark!

Even closer to Flying Horse is a new small strip mall that recently opened on Voyager and North Gate Rd. Eventually, there will be a grocery store in the lot next to it on North Gate, literally about a 5-minute drive. Or walking distance from my neighborhood (if I wasn't going to be walking with a 4 year-old and infant twins!) since ours is on the west end of FH, closest to the (someday) new grocery store.

This is already MUCH longer than I'd planned, so I'll stop gushing now. My point is Flying Horse is a fantastic place to live in Colorado Springs!

What are the monthly fees for the club?

Is there an initiation fee? What is that?

Thanks BrandiB! Great info! Our neighbors are very close. We camp together sometimes go on vacations together, etc. To have a great neighborhood with nice caring neighbors is a gift. Far too many people don't even know their neighbors let alone become friends with them. Congrats to you!

Do you have any info about the costs of the club? I too am curious about the club fees.

Flying Horse is broken up into smaller subdivisions. Syrah, Solera, and Saratoga are the "cheaper" ones with prices in the $400,000-$700,000 range. Sonoma is a new luxury patio home sudivision on the golf course and very close to the club. They range from about $700,000 to well over a million. Calistoga is on the southside of North Gate Rd. across from Syrah and Solera. It will be broken up into 4 gated communities and the lots only go up to 1/2 acre, but range in price from $300,000 to almost $700,000 (just for the lot). Toscano is the super high-end neighborhood. The entrance is gated with a guard right next to the club. The LOTS in this neighborhood start at $500,000!

The club is definitely not cheap. For a "social" membership, which lets you do everything but golf for free, there's a $7000 initial down payment. This is waived if you build a house in Saratoga, Syrah, and Solera, although I think they're close to selling out lots in the latter two. The monthly dues are around $200/mo for the social membership. If you have small children, the child watch is $4/hour or $48/month for unlimited access. There is a 3-hour max per day either way. If you're a golfer, you can golf 8 rounds and pay the greens fees ($75 I think). I can't remember if the 8 rounds are monthly or yearly since we don't golf.

The full golf membership is much more expensive. The initial fee is something like $35000, which is waived if you build in Toscano or Calistoga (and maybe in the million-dollar patio homes in Sonoma too, but I'm not sure). I don't know what the monthly dues are, but they're much more than what we pay for the social membership.

Wow, $200/month, I wonder if it is ten times better than Fitness 19.

From what I know of Fitness 19, it doesn't offer 3 different pools, aerobics classes, 3 different restaurants, tennis courts, classes ranging from everything from cooking to ballroom dancing, kids camps, or even childcare. I could be wrong about some of it, but I thought Fitness 19 was a gym without any frills. It's really difficult to compare one to the other.

Thanks BrandiB! You are right, you cannot compare the club to just a gym. You are not only buying into a workout facility but also a social community.

Too bad there are no equestrian facilities.
