Default Grocery stores - coupons

Well it looks as if we will be moving into Colorado Springs this fall . I just wanted to know ahead of time - do any of the grocery stores double coupons on ongoing basis . We are really spoiled by that where we are and are currently able to get awsome deals on groceries because of it.
I also would like to know if it is possible to buy the sunday additon of the Denver Post or Rocky Mountain news in Colorado Springs because it seems that they would be the likeliest sources for the most coupons in the area.

I had the Denver Post for several years...an economic downturn on my part meant I had to get rid of it recently But yes, it is available but note that it is delivered via the Gazette carriers who (in my experience) are not that great. Ever since they contracted with The Gazette, my service was pretty bad. That may have changed (haven't had a DP in about three months now and wish I could get it again) though.

As for doubling coupons, the main one that I know that does that is King Soopers (Kroger for those peering in from out of state). Sign up for one of their cards too. Not only do you get the obvious discounts but they often send you coupons which are very valuable. I have a free 11-13 oz coupon for their brand of coffee. Given my last experience in the coffee isle, this is a good deal.

What is it with the Gazette carriers, anyway? When I first moved here I subscribed for Sundays and almost never got a paper the first six weeks in spite of multiple phone calls to customer service and lots of promises from them to fix the problem. So then out of frustration I cancelled my subscription, and the very next Sunday I got a paper and kept getting them for three or four months afterward without paying for them, and my original payment had been refunded when I cancelled. So it appears to me that when you pay you can't get a paper but when you don't, you do. I finallly stopped getting them about six weeks ago and am not about to resubscribe, will just go buy one when I want one.

Must be the Gazette delivering in the Larkspur area too. When we first moved here, we started getting the Denver Post on random days for almost a year. We never ordered it and the old owner never did either.

I don't know other than a friend of mine used to work for them, they treat their carriers like CRAP. He busted his ankle (really bad) and since he was a contractor, no help from them. He was laid up for months because of that incident.

They have their nice commercials about how you can make $800 a month being a carrier but after my friend's experience, I refuse to even try it even if I could use the money. What cracks me up is that they show a guy delivering papers mid-day while driving a BMW. Yeah right.

Anyhow, their newspaper is weak which is why I had The Denver Post. I still look at their website (both actually) but the Denver Post has better news and more of it...or it did a few months ago.

Part of the problem is ever since The Sun shut down back in the 80s, they've been the only game for daily news. In a city this big, I think another paper would do well again.

Oh and I think that if another paper came in, if it was a decent one, it might drive The Gazette to either bankruptcy or to shift it's thinking. Sadly, they have been laying off people left and right (News Blab Mike came back online ((thankfully)) and reported about this some time ago News Blab 2008 - It's about News )

I miss my Denver Post, very much and hopefully with some shifting in my finances I can get it delivered again.

Oh and Swampy, both papers will occasionally deliver them through the year to entice you to buy a subscription. I get that more with the Gazette and The Rocky Mtn. News. A random newspaper on my driveway several times a year.

I never liked the formatting of the Rocky Mtn. News. Luckily they worked with the DP for the Saturday edition to make it like a real paper. I love the C Springs Independent but it's just too weird to read...having gorwn up in a family that loved news.

Enough of that, sheesh!

If I ever see them delivering it without me actually ordering it, I'll be giving them a piece of my mind right there in the street. I dislike newspapers. They're dirty. I read the news online, same stuff, but cleaner.

Yes, once in a while the Gazette will put a paper on everyone's step, usually in conjunction with a major holiday where there are TONS of ad supplements. The advertisers probably pay to have that stuff delivered to non-subscribers in order to get all those sale flyers delivered, rather than use bulk mail.

I gave up on printed papers years ago, they are mostly ads anyway, even my favorite, the Washington Post.

I read the front page of a dozen on-line sources daily. I've a new Apple iMac-20 with the Safari browser; the graphics on this thing are simply marvelous. I pop up all the papers at once and just move down the line from one news source to another, closing each tab as I go.

I can get coupons on line if I want them, there are sources for coupons in general and for each supermarket in particular. Not sure anyone here does double coupons. Every few months I get a wad of coupons in the mail from King Soopers, things like $5 cash back if we spend over $70, etc. I wouldn't rule a city in or out based on grocery coupons. We have big box club stores here as well as the regulars, and the lower overall cost of living and housing here can make up for more than any coupons would do for you. (For example, housing here is WAY cheaper than on the coasts, saving $1000.00 each month in mortgage costs pays for a lot of eats.)

s/Mike
