I have no idea what "Mayberry" like neighborhood some of the folks on here live in....but to say the crime in this city is non-existant is ludicrous!!!
This is one of the many reasons my husband and I are looking to get outta this town....for greener pastures, less crime, and more affordable living. Crime is inevitable anywhere you go yes,but when CSPD finds a dead girl's body less than a mile from my home and I see people using drugs openly on my street DAILY....I am heading out. I have done the reserach...I have looked endlessly at the real estate ads pumped to me daily by flyer and television/radio ads.....affordable luxury for $250,000?!? That house better come with gold plated shingles and imported hand chopped wood for us to pay that price...LOL....we are average folks who are non-denominational,work hard for a living, and we are rewarded by snobbery and the inability to ever be able to afford to have any kind of life in CoS. If you can afford...have at it....and God bless ya for it!!! I know I'm gonna be the villian for this opinion, but I just had to add my 2 cents...

"Mayberry" = Pleasant View Estates, Jackson Creek, GlenEagle, Fox Run, Woodmoor, just to name a few. There are plenty of crime-free neighborhoods in Colorado Springs based on my personal experience. It's been four years since I moved from COS, and I know housing prices have gone up quite a bit since then. So, maybe none of those neighborhoods are within reach anymore for someone looking for a $250,000 home. Anything north of Woodmen Road to the County Line Road in Monument is about as close to crime-free in a big city as you can get. People talking about crime and COS must be referring to downtown COS and everything south towards Fountain and Security. You get what you pay for - I would not be surprised if a neighborhood full of $75,000 to $150,000 homes has its fair share of crime and unsavory characters.

Here are a bunch of homes in your price range. You'd have to move out of town though.

We live in the "Mayberry" like neighborhood of Monument. There might be crime here, probably more than I see. There was in Mayberry. I don't know if crime is non-existant anywhere. I hope no one actually would believe that claim.

What you see is what you see. Do I see drug deals going on outside day and night? If I say no, is that BS? If I don't feel like crime is rampant in my neighborhood, is that BS? I am not feeding anyone BS. You can't generalize a whole area, much less a whole state. Do you think the millions who live in CO are totally ignorant? Why not go all the way and just say the whole U.S. is a terrible, over priced dump because of what you see outside your house?

I am very happy to live here, and it sounds like many other are also. We must all be delusional.
Have a nice day

Didn't mean to be a snob or to be snide. I apologize if that's what happened. Being a jerk wasn't my intention (this time).

I meant to convey two things: 1) COS is really a reasonably priced place to live with respect to the jobs and infrastructure (schools) consideration, and 2) I hate to write it again but "You should see LA"; those properties are for real. It's a joke and it's not a joke.

Again, I apologize.

IFRPilot (sic) is correct (just teasing you Paul).

Crime in the Tri-Lakes area, Monument, Palmer Lake, and Woodmoor is virtually unnoticable. Sure, some high school kids are smoking pot (who didn't). (I think I'd rather have my kids smoke pot in high school or college once a month versus watching 20 hours of TV per week. Which is more unhealthful?)

I live here and feel very comfortable. The place is inhabited with a lot of retired Air Force folks and families like Paul's and mine. That's why we moved here: low crime, excellent schools, zero traffic, pretty and natural geography, and proximity to both Colorado Springs and Denver for jobs.

First things first....I now owe an apology to VFRpilot for offending his/her delicate sensibilities when it comes to the conditions in which I currently live. I know I am a minority in the opinions of the negatives of this city and/or state. I was angry that it seemed implied in earlier posts that I get what I paid for and that I deserve to live in this neighborhood for my lack of higher education or my job choice. I apologize sincerly for my rantings. Like I have said before in earlier postings to this and other threads, there are good things about CoS as a whole, but the negatives seem to be overlooked because it's not seen in their own backyard.
It is not gonna be widely reported, nor is it gonna be told even to the good people who live in Monument or King's Deer, but in my neighborhood, on my street as of 8/21/07, an unknown man lit a dumpster on fire behind my good friend's building an started a fire in which the Cimarron Hills fire department had to come and put out in front of all the neighborhood children in broad daylight, and then my children, as well as 5 other children had to stop playing in the afternoon sunshine and stay inside for the rest of the evening as there were 2 men playing with pistols in their yard in front of small children. This activity is not uncommon here in this area, but it is the principles of "don't ask, don't tell" and "if I didn't see it, it doesn't happen here" that really gets my goat. I am delighted that people are comfortable here and that by other state's standards that you are enjoying your lives in Colorado, but I have lived here for a good portion of my life, and no matter where I lived, what school I attended, or who were/are my friends, I have seen too much to know that I can ever share the sentiments of the folks who live in relative comfort or financial stability. I know of the comparisons, and that I am supposed to be grateful to be where I am as far as it could be worse, and I am to a degree, but I am not about to pretend that my neighborhood is King's Deer or Jackson Creek by comparison to South Central LA or Chicago. I am tired of fighting the good fight to keep our heads barely above water, and have found that moving elsewhere is best for my family. Once again, I apologize to anyone my post may have offended, but this is my opinion and I still live in a country where the freedom of speech is protected. I am not anti-Colorado (city or state) for anyone, I am against having to fight the problems that are overlooked. The problems most good folks round here don't know and seemingly don't wanna know about. Thanks!
