Default Is 80910 really that bad?

I just moved here from Kansas and I've been house searching for the last few days. I've found a great house that meets my particular needs but I keep hearing that 80910 isn't the best area to live in. Is this really the case or are there certain streets/areas that I should avoid? I would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

I wouldn't want to live there. I did some secures, and repairs in that area back when I worked for countrywide. While working down there I got my tools stolen, and I almost got jumped one evening. There were a lot of foreclosures around there, and the houses were torn up pretty bad inside. The worst was down around those streets that end in wood. There are some nice people down there but you have the bad ones too. Seems like on the west side of academy it gets better.

My DGF's father lives in 80910, between Chelton and Academy.

He has bars on his windows. You tell me.

For Colorado Springs its considered a dangerous area. Its probably one of the few areas of town that you would want to avoid.

Thanks so much for the postings. I guess I should have made the location a little bit clearer; considering it's a pretty big area. It's west of Academy and a couple of blocks from a park. According to Mapquest, it's Van Diest Park.

I think Van Diest Park is pretty close to Carmel Drive, and there has recently been 2 shootings around that area that I saw on the news.
