I feel this is an important link to post to this thread:
El Paso County, Colorado - Solid Waste Management Division
Seriously, your old TVs, old computers, old batteries...whatever, if you can, take them to them.

i have Bestway disposal and they pick up recycling for FREE and EVERY WEEK when they get my garbage, not every other week like some others that i looked at. but they wont get cardboard or glass (which apparently none of the trash companies will).
does anyone know of a place to recylce cardboard other than at the academy? maybe peterson or somewhere else in town? i was told in the south part of C.S., but dont know where.....

I'm a treehugger.
Oh, sure, I recycle and stuff when I can, but mostly I just love hugging trees because they're so cute and cuddly. Plus, hugging tight to those limbs keeps me from falling. Environmentalists hate me because I've strangulated some pretty old trees in my zeal.

I wrote in to another thread earlier tonight re: recycling so I'll just copy and paste what I wrote in regards to the place I go to for all my recyclables:
There is a Waste Management facility near Fillmore that does take a whole bunch of recyclables for free. You just drive your car up to all the bins. Just take I-25 to Fillmore, then go East on Fillmore and turn left on Stone St. (where the McDonald's is), and then you make a right on 4th St. (where the Sears Appliance Outlet is). You'll see the WM place on the left side right after the tracks. Here are the bins they have set out:
1. Paper (including newspapers, magazines, junk mail, etc.)
2. Cardboard
3. Glass bottles/jars
4. Phone books
5. Aluminum and plastic (Numbers 1-7)
I now go drop off my recyclables once a week or more since it's so easy to get to.

I like the graphic!
I think I may have misrepresented myself. :P I just figured some poster would say, "Townspeople! Get your pitchforks and torches! We have a democratic/independent evironmentalist in our midst! Destroy her!"
I do not hug trees because:
A. That would be weird for the tree. Here comes this strange girl trying to hug them. Very off-putting.
B. They are very prickly.
C. They have better things to do than hug me, like make oxygen, wave, and provide equal opportunity housing forest creatures.
D. People might get the wrong idea. I'm not that kind of girl.
In all seriousness, thanks for everyone's input. I think because I live in an apartment complex I'm at their mercy, but I will check out the places you have mentioned! Thanks everyone!

News regarding Recycling
I am so excited - I read this big advertisement in the Sunday gazette that Bestway Recycling is Changing!!! They will from now on offer a recycling container - their new program called WayGreen - a Single Stream Recycling for Residential and Business. From now on you can use one container for all your recyclable items without sorting them. They will pick it up once a week. Also, they will accept glass bottles and jars! They will also take: empty aerosol cans, office paper, aluminium cans and foil, cardboard, brown paper bags, newspaper, plastics (#1 - # 7)!!!!, paperboard (cereal boxes, tissue boxes etc), phone books, junk mail and magazines and steel cans.
They announce this service will reduce trash and save landfill space
I don't know what the cost for this service is.....hopefully it is part of their current service. I will call them tomorrow to find out!
Anyway, here their website if anyone else is interested: Welcome to Bestway Disposal of Colorado Springs - (719) 633-8709
Way to go!!!

I am from VA and we were all about recycling, here you have to drive (unless you want to pay them for pickup) to Waste management and divide everything up into there dumpsters, but that is only glass, paper, cardboard. If you want to recycle things like paint, etc. there is a new place off of union I think, I will have to look that back up AND if you want to recycle brush etc, that is done by the dump or you can pay to have someone pick that up. I thought back home we had to pay for a lot, now I am definite we dont pay half as much for stuff as you do out here, not to mention higher taxes.....

If you are already a customer of Bestway (for their weekly trash pick-up)..then you pay only $5/monthly to rent one of those recycling containers. There is no sorting out and they will accept much more than they previously did...especially glass!!

Don't know if I understand you correctly.... do you think it is too much to pay $ 5/month for this recycling program? Currently I have to sort out my recycling paper/cans/plastics...it has to be placed in separate bags next to the trash container. Very often the wind takes it and it lands in my neighbors yard.... sometimes it ends up with all the other trash in the truck (because it is "mistaken" as trash)... For the other items like glass and other plastic items I have to drive miles to get it recycled..... I have spoken to several neighbors and everybody likes this new idea of recycling and none of them thinks $ 5 is too much for this service. I think this program will encourage people to recycle more. I think if everybody would just contribute a little bit...this would be a much better world
