Default Inexpensive high speed internet

Hi I will be moving to the Springs shortly and was wondering if anyone knows about inexpensive high speed internet. I saw Qwest's regular rate for DSL is about $35 a month. Is there any less expensive option for high speed? Everything that I've looked at that seems reasonable is only an introductory rate, then the rate goes up after about 6 months to a year. Thanks for your help.

Yeah, Qwest DSL is the best priced high-speed in town. The only other alternatives are Comcast Cable or satellite like HughesNet, but they are both more expensive than Qwest DSL.

I have Cricket and it's OK, but not great. The best thing is that it's easy and you can connect anywhere with a laptop. The negatives are that it's not as fast as other high speed options and there is a 5gb per month cap. This means that it's not really a good option if you like to watch movies online or download lots of files.

Good luck!

Will Quest allow you to sign up just for the internet access or do you have to have land line telephone service installed, too?

You have to have a land line for DSL to work, but you only have to have one unlike dial-up where you would need two if you didn't want callers always getting busy signals. If you want high speed and no land line, then you cable is the way to go, unless you want satellite TV instead of cable then you're back to DSL and the land line. Kind like a dog chasing its tail, enit?

No landline required, but likely not inexpensive.

Wow suzco. I hadn't heard of that. It really isn't all that bad price wise! Maybe I can get rid of my land line now. Thanks!

In COS, Qwest charges around $10/mo more per month for DSL if it's not bundled with phone service. Basic local phone service is $15/mo, plus all the crazy telecom fees, taxes, and ransoms.

I spent a good deal of time with this decision today and finally decided to start with Comcast cable triple play (cable TV, 8/2 Mbps cable internet, and phone with unlimited local/domestic long distance calling). Comcast, unlike the Qwest/DirecTV combo, doesn't require a 2-yr contract, so they get the benefit of the doubt. If it turns out that Comcast service sucks, I can always bail and switch to Qwest/DirecTV later and only be out the $75 installation on the cable.
