Question relocating to colorado springs

Hello all. My husband and I are relocating to Colorado Springs in approx. 1 month. I have been looking online for rental properties. I really like the Fountain Valley area? Any suggestions. We just want a nice, safe neighborhood. Needless to say, I am excited about the snow..we don't get much at Ft. Knox Kentucky. Really just looking for some info. about where to go, good neighborhoods, things to do. I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

Briargate, Stetson Hills (lots of military folks live here), and Rockrimmon are all nice areas. These are all up north. I really don't know a whole lot about the south part of the Springs, but I have heard that the Cheyenne Mountain area (much closer to Ft Carson) is nice.

You might try looking at www.militarybyowner.com -- lots of houses listed for rent near the various bases in town (I'm assuming you're a military family).

If you're at Ft Carson, Briargate is probably too far north. Fountain Valley or the SW part of town might be a better pick in that case.

Thanks for the info. My husband finally retired a year ago. He is a gov. contractor now, which brings us to Colorado. Also, how are allergy issues? I have heard that there is such a thing as "Altitude Sickness." Is there usually breathing issues when first moving to the springs?

Congrats to you and your husband on the retirement! I am a Air Force retiree and a gov. contractor. Altitude sickness does occur in some folks to varying degrees. For most folks, it is just usually a shortness of breath and fatigue until you get used to it up here. It took me about a week to get settled (I've been here 8 years now.) There's a really good write up on it at this link Altitude sickness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

If he's going to be working at Schriever or Peterson AFB or the AF Academy, then the northern sections are fine. Outside of living in Falcon or one of the small towns on the eastern prairie, nowhere is really convenient to Schriever to be honest. If at Ft Carson, then from the north, you are looking at about a 20 - 30 minute drive depending on traffic and weather conditions. If that is unacceptable, then you might want to look at the places Bob mentioned.

I've never seen anyone get sick to that degree. Usally just a little dizzy and nauseous.

I didn't know you could get pulmonary edema from that.

I didn't either until I read that article. Kinda freaked me out a little, but like you, I've never seen anyone get that sick from it either.
