Default Dogs in COS

Is there a city ordnance that dictates the number of dogs a person may own within the city limits?

I kind of looked over the laws in the City's page and didn't see anything that stated quantities. That being said, I know that some some Home Owner's Associations do put limits in their covenants. For instance, in my neighborhood, you can only have three.

Here's a couple of links. You may find something I missed.

Thanx Fullback32 I also searched the city and county laws and internet but couldn't find anything. Just wanted to double check to make sure. My house is not under any covenant. I have 4 small dogs (spoiled house dogs). Before I committed to taking in another unwanted little dog, I wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking any law. I had heard (thru the grapevine) that city ordnance allowed only 4 dogs before having to aquire a kennel license.

4 is your limit. Had a problem neighbor and they had 5 dogs, one of which they left behind.

You can have more if you apply for a kennel license. I believe it is available through the county.

Why in god's good name would you want 5 dogs at once? Man, I have one Border Collie that drives me insane.

I couldn't imagine having 5 of them.

SaxLuva is obviously a dog person. Personally, I'm like you. I have a Beagle and a pug/corgi mix and the Beagle especially makes me crazy. Now the kicker to all that is I am a cat person (two cats). The dogs are the wife's and we wisely separated the duties. She takes care of the dogs; I take care of the cats. If we had anymore dogs, I think I would voluntarily sleep outside.

I am most definately a dog lover. I'm also the oldest of 15, so 4 dogs is a walk in the park. My dogs are very loved, but also very well behaved. All my kids are grown and gone and I don't get to see my grandchildren very often, so my 11lb Chug (Pug-Chihuahua mix), 13lb mutt, 5lb Belge Brussels Griffon and my 6 lb Black Brussels Griffon are my children. I used to have Rotties and Danes, but now that I'm older I can't train the larger dogs. My son told me I could not replace my 185lb Rottie in 10lb increments.................. SMILE But in answer to your question ryanek9freak, well behaved dogs, like well behaved children are a joy to be around. Undisciplined dogs, like undisciplined children, will make you crazy.

well yeah I guess it depends on the dog type as too. Brussels Griffons are well mannered lap dogs.

My Border Collie is a hyperactive neurotic that if I didn't kennel him at night, he'd never sleep.

I'm sure your Border Collie is not a hyperactive neurotic, you just have have to find out what makes him tic and then use that to occupy his mind. Border Collies are working dogs and if they don't get enough stimuation thru working, they will seem hyperactive. Working dogs have a deep rooted need to please their masters, have you tried treaching him tricks or just basic commands? I know it sounds strange, but in order to understand your dog, you gotta think like him.
