Default Paddling Fountain Creek

Does anyone know if it's at all possible to paddle any portion of Fountain Creek from within Co. Springs, heading south, in a small flat-water kayak?

On my maps, I see that America the Beautiful Park is right on the creek in an area whwre it looks like it's possibly wide enough for a kayak. I found a link about the Fountian Creek watershed
Fountain Creek - index

It didn't say paddling was not allowed, but it didn't say that it is either. I know people probably just assume it's sewage since it's in a city, but i could not find anything saying that it was very dangerous in the water report. Anyone happen to know anything about this subject?

I don't think it's deep enough anywhere until you actually get to Fountain itself.

It is a nasty source of water though. Not sure if i'd want to kayak in that.

Thanks for the tip, Ryane, maybe I'll start at Fountain and work my way upstream looking for good future put in spots. People seem to think it's pretty nasty. Can;t be any worse than the Guadlupe River in San Jose, and I've had many a good paddle at the bayward end of that.

It is nasty enough that no one walks or wades in it. Dogs won't even walk in it. I would stay clear of it due to the pollution that has been dumped into it. Even the homeless stay clear of it, completely.

Sewage spills are no fun.

I wonder what else is coming down the "Pike".

Alright, back to the drawing board then, I guess. I'm trying to find a place along the front range where I can go for an extended flat-water paddle without having to drive for hours to get there. By 'extended' I mean further than the 1-2 mile distance across the known boatable lakes in the area. Maybe the Arkansas river, east of Pueblo Reservoir would do the trick? Or is there some other mecca for this I'm overlooking?

Check out these kayakers here, just past the 4th street bridge.

Just be really careful these days, especially while the water's still high.

Yeah the Arkansas, right off the pueblo resiviour (sp?) is plenty deep.

My roommate and I have taken his 20 foot bass boat about 2 miles upstream with no problem.

Turkey creek might also be alot of fun.

I was joking with DH on this topic yesterday and he told me to add this:
My DH is a firefighter and when they have to go into Ftn creek for any reason, it is protocol to through DECON afterwards--treating it as a hazmat. I am being dead serious. They have to get into hazmat gear, get decontaminated afterwards, the whole kit and kaboodle.
