Question Just moved to Ft.Carson...IS THIS A POTATO BUG?!?!

My soldier hubby,my 2 kids, and I just moved to Fort Carson a couple days ago from Georgia. We are originally from Missouri.I was cleaning up my kitchen tonight after dinner and walked into the dining room and there was a nasty lookin bug crawling on my floor.
Its brown, had what looked like pinchers on its head and butt...it was about 1/2 in long and was slender...I have never been to colorado before...but I know that different places have different pests.I just want to know what it might be...if they bite...or if I need to have the base spray for them.I have a 5 year old and a 15 month old baby that is always on the floor. My husband said it looked like a potato bug...but I dont know what they look like.My daughter does have a little bite on her forearm that has kind of a blister on it...but I really dont know...so please if u might know something...HELP ME OUT!!!! EWWWW I HATE BUGS!!!!!!!

looks like an earwig to me...i hate those things, but i don't think they are particularly dangerous. their pinchers aren't strong enough to break human skin.

By the way, a potato bug is a very interesting creature. They have kind of a baby face, very unique. I last saw one of those in Calif too. And as for being afraid of bugs, most bugs are afraid of people and they won't "bug" you if you don't bug them.

That's an earwig... they're very common and they're harmless....no bites, no blisters. They look scarier than they really are.

They sometimes make a bit of a stinky smell when you squish 'em.

I get a few of these in my apartment from time to time. I never seen them until I moved to Colorado. I didn't know what they were called until now.
