Default Pikes Peak Photographs

Thought I'd post some my own recent Winter-time photographs of Pikes Peaks. These pix were taken on 02 Feb 2007. Temperature at my home at 7AM was -7F, and they say that up on the top of Pikes Peak at 14,100 Ft the temperature is always 20-30 degrees colder than down here at 6600 Ft, so that means the temperature up on the peak was probably -20F to -30F... not counting wind chill.

As the crow flies, I'm about 15 miles from the mountain. Views like this can he had from the entire area. Maximum zoom with my camera is 4X.

I use a Nikon Coolpix 995 that I've had for quite a few years now, nothing special, standard lens and a 1GB card. Pix were shot from the warmth of my house, from the front bedroom....not a bad view at all.... quite a sight many days... what a great place to live... nothing like it anywhere in the world...

First batch of pix with pinkness in the sky were taken at 7AM, when the morning sun was just hitting the mountain. Even at these temperatures, the sun will "steam" the snow and lift it off as clouds or vapor....

Second batch of pix was at 8AM, and all the pinkness of the morning sun were long gone.

All 20 pix are at: http://s40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...20Photographs/

Photo 1: Original raw photo, un-retouched, not Photo-shopped. Pinkness and steaming effect of the sun clearly shown.

Photo 2: Same as photo 1, but I've used the "quick fix" feature of my "Image Expert" software to adjust colors.

Photo 3: Now it is 8AM and the morning pinkness is gone, un-retouched in any way.

Photo 4: Same as Photo 3, after using the Quick Fix to adjust colors.

Photo 5: Cropped but otherwide un-retouched.

Add your own pix of Pikes Peak if you care to. Limit this thread to pix of Pikes Peak only.

Beautiful pictures. Have we not had some spectacular skies lately with the snow, sun, frost and the cold. but I am ready to warm up. I love winter but enough is enough now.

Default Pikes Peak - Dec 10, 2007 - 8:30 AM

Here are 2 of the peak steaming in the morning sun. Temperature up there is between -10F to -20F. Views of the mountain are always changing. From the east side of town where these were taken, views are best in the A.M.

Our view from the front of our soon-to-be house. If you ignore the portapotties and the electricity poles, it makes a very nice backdrop.
