Question How are the state laws?

I'll be moving from CA in April to the springs and am curious about state laws vs CA laws. I know we are pretty strict here. Employment laws, driving laws, noice, etc. Is there much of a difference?

Anxiously awaiting my move!!

No smog testing in Colorado Springs! One less thing to worry/pay for. It may be coming in the future, however. Boulder County requires a smog test (no surprise there!). I've heard Elpaso County may be doing it down the road.

Alcohol laws did surprise me. Bars close at 2am and stores (gas stations, walmart, etc) can sell alcohol between 8am-12am. Also, any beer sold at stores, other than liquor stores, contains only 3.2% alcohol (instead of the normal ~6%).

That's all that I know about

Hm, in California, the bars close at two, and everywhere stops selling liquor from two to six in the morning. Longer wait time here; glad I no longer drink. ;D

We used to do emmisions (sp) testing in C Springs but no longer do. Boulder is not alone, the entire Denver Metro area is required to have testing because of continuously failing EPA air quality rules...don't knock Boulder because of it, it's state law for them to do so.

As for other laws for the OP, what specifically are you looking for? I am not that much up on CA laws and your own circumstances...

Could you be more specific? Are you curious about any particular area? (Guns, cars, what?)

ummm.....well not sure how to answer you because not sure what your hoping for. More laid back system, or is it that you want an even stricter government. Also not sure what laws you are wondering about. However, I will briefly say that there is a commen catch phrase here in colorado and that is " Colorado.... come see us on vacation, and leave on probation!" and that is only if you are lucky enough to make in out of this prison ran state!!!

Gun laws here much better than California for those who like guns. Concealed carry permits are possible with training. If Military, just go to the Sheriff's office and a background check later you've got a concealed carry permit. I think the high rate of concealed carry here helps keep the crime rate down below other cities this size. I heard that 1 in 8 folks of legal age here have a concealed carry permit.

These are our crazy laws:
In Logan County, it is illegal for a man to kiss a woman while she is asleep....

It is illegal to swim during the daytime in a pool or river within the city limits of Durango, CO

It is illegal to throw shoes at weddings in Colorado.

In Denver, it is unlawful to lend your vacuum cleaner to your next door neighbor.

Los Angeles "Daily News": Have you ever had the urge to rip the tag from a pillow or mattress, despite the warning of dire penalties? Well, it's perfectly legal now, if you live in Colorado. Governor Roy Romer formalized the law by gleefully tearing a label from a pillow at his office. "I've been worrying about the mattress inspector jumping through the window for years," he said.

laws reguarding cars here are too strict. I dunno if you are into street racing or not but if you are this is not the place for you. The current point assesment based on what i was told around last week is that a street racing ticket if you get one is now 21 pts.(colorado like many states run off a point system)which basicly means suspension of licence for roughly 2 yrs or more depending on violation and that fine i was last told was $1500. thats without court fees and such. Also if you like the neon light kits for your car you mind as well take them off b4 you get here. There are very few legal colors, pink, purple, basicly none of the colors like red, blue, green, orange, white, yellow. you will get an impersenating a public servant ticket which i was also told was going on records as a class three felony. so thats just some of the retarted traffic laws here. exhaust tickets are $60/ticket. if you want or need to know any others let me know.
