Serious question....is that like what they used to call "shock treatment"? I thought that was discounted and no one did it anymore. Wow. I must do some reading.

Yes it is. I read up on it and it seems that some people still have "shock treatment" for severe depression. It does cause memory loss and a decreased capacity to learn. I have the deepest sympathy for people who have to resort to that type of treatment to feel some kind of relief. In this day and age, you'd think we'd have better alternatives.
