Can someone elaborate on the pros and cons of CSCS and D12. We are considering each. Our children will both be in middle school next year. Also, as far as housing w/in a half hour drive of CSCS, what is average price and lot size? I'm guessing a 1 acre lot is probably not an option.

Thanks.

(Some of) D12 (schools) is one of the best if not the best district in the Pikes Peak area. D20 and D38 are also very good.

Pros of D12: They don't teach religion.

If that's your view, then definately go to CSCS, D12 is a public school system and they teach education.

Churches are for teaching religion, not schools.

I appreciate the Christian teaching that CSCS would provide. However, my interest in this post is primarily about academics. In other words, what are the pros and cons of both sets of schools in teaching the three R's -- Reading, wRiting and aRithmatic. I really don't want this post to devolve into an question over whether religion should be taught in schools. Thanks all. Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Well, religious schools do have centuries of history providing for quality education all over the world. In many big cities, particularly back east, religious schools are the ONLY reasonable option for parents who care about their kids' education.

They're not for everyone by any means, but there's no need to knock them.

I'm not knocking them, I went to Catholic school. The atmosphere, the order and discipline are a great envirnment to learn, but I think the curriculum is biased, particulary when it comes to history.
I an not knocking religion or anyones right to religion. I'm a Vietnam Vet and served this country so that everyone's right to choose his/her religion freely was protected. I just don't believe the church belongs in schools.

If you're looking for large lots (i.e. 1 acre and up) you won't find too much in town. Your best bets are Black Forest, Monument, maybe east of Powers? However if you can be happy with 1/4 - 1/3 acre, you will probably find more in Colorado Springs. Our lot is 1/3 acre and we are in 80918, D-20 schools, older established neighborhood, lots and lots of trees. My husband teaches in D-20; our kids are in D-20 and so far we have been very pleased. We were not interested in private schools and so far D-20 has been a very good public school choice. If International Baccalaureate curriculum is something you are interested in, look at Mountain Ridge Middle School, Rampart HS, Pine Creek HS and Discovery Canyon, which is a K-12 campus on the north side of Colorado Springs. ("IB" is equivalent to "AP/Honors" in other parts of the country, although Rampart also has an Honors track separate from "IB").
