Default MVA question

We are moving to COS next spring and my husband needs a new car. In Maryland they will charge you tax on the value of the car when you register it with MD tags (nice little welcome gift !). Will we have to pay taxes on the car when we register it in CO ?

I'm trying to figure out if it's better to buy it here or wait until we get out there. My father in law seems to think an SUV would be cheaper on the east coast.

License fees are based on vehicle type and weight and ownership fees are based on year of manufacture. I found the following at the El Paso county DMV site:

1st Year of Service Taxable Value x .021
2nd Year of Service Taxable Value x .015
3rd Year of Service Taxable Value x .012
4th Year of Service Taxable Value x .009
5th Year through 9 Year of Service Taxable Value x .0045
10th Year of Service and Older A Minimum Tax of $3.00/Year

There's more info on sales tax rates on the El Paso County DMV site, too. Hope that helps!
