Looking to move to Colorado Springs...
Hi to all. I'm needing to get any good advice on moving to Colorado Springs. My wife and I are wanting to move there within the next two years. No definite timeline, two years just sounds reasonable to us. We currently live in Oklahoma City, and although we both have grown up here, and this is where both of our families reside, we think moving to Colorado Springs would be a great way to improve quality of life. The idea of waking up and being able to see mountains is amazing. I know there is a vast increase of activities to do outdoors than there are here. The positive/negative list between these two cities is too extensive to keep going. So, what I need to know is which parts of town are better than others (crime, income, house prices, church...) or any other helpful hints that can help. I just joined this forum yesterday, so I'm sure that I will have many more questions as time gets closer to actually moving.
Thanks and God Bless. - Matt

Welcome to CityData, it can be super handy and a powerful information-gathering tool.
While I am certain you have valid points and useful questions that you are looking to get answered, I am equally certain that most of your questions regarding the Springs area have already been answered previously.
It would be helpful to you probably to search out the fields and threads on here concerning questions about the springs.
Some people on here get a little out of pocket when they see questions reposted that have already been answered, but if you're that new to the forum how are you expected to know that?
Your Springs questions regarding jobs and church and family etc, I cannot personally answer, but after much drama I am moving to the area from Illinois on monday and am very much looking forward to it.
Best of luck to you.

and some people think those people should lighten up. Be sure to check out the Colorado Springs forum on citydata, you should be able to find all of the answers to your questions there...
Quickly...
Generally speaking if you're looking for a more conservative, "family" centered lifestyle, you'll want to check out neighborhoods on the city's north side. El Paso County is overwhelmingly Republican, but there are small pockets of liberalism downtown and on the west side. Highest crime area is on the southeast side, but in general Colorado Springs is safe.

Alright, well thanks BlueSimple and CSNative for replying. I will look into the other threads for the info I was looking for. One question for whoever to answer, though. How is the weather in January? Obviously it's cold, but the reason I'm asking is that a buddy and I are coming up from Jan. 4th through the 8th, and I was just wondering how the road conditions are up there, as well as average temp., precip., etc. Thanks!

January. It could be 70 degrees, or it could be 5 degrees. We can have snow storms in January, but our snowiest months, typically, are March and April. The north end sees much more snow than further south in a normal year.
This page shows average temps and precip for the 12 months of the year. Keep in mind these averages are for the airport on the south side, and conditions usually vary widely from one end of town to the other. It's not uncommon to have a blinding blizzard up north, and a breezy day with a few flurries here and there downtown.

Go to the COLO SPGS forum, open the index, click on Why Choose Colorado Springs and read a few posts in that thread.
Then look in the index for topics of interest, everything from Schools to Pizza to stuff for KIDS to do, etc.
After that, if you have specific questions, add them to the end of an existing thread. Start a new thread if the topic isn't already listed. Once you get the basics, you'll be able to ask very insightful questions and we'll be able to help.
