Talking Prop 8 Rally, City Hall.

Anyone make it out yesterday, or see it?

I did not write the sign; I already know there's a typo.
It was at City Hall, yesterday, at all 11:30.
I'd say there were about 100 people.

I was skiing at Breck. Got better things to do than protest a proposition that the voters in California voted on several weeks ago...

Yeah, I have to wonder what good it does to protest a California issue in Colorado.

I don't know how much good 100 people protesting in Colorado Springs is going to do for California, but I do support the cause. Kudos to you. There was a time when I cared about things. Thought I could make a difference. Then I got old and bitter...

There was a time, it may still exist in some states, when the majority of "Americans" would've voted in favor of Jim Crow, poll taxes, literacy tests and other means to disenfranchise black citizens. That era is over, now the march for human dignity is moving on to the next set of people who are being denied equal rights. Someday that battle will succeed. Until then, the people John McCain referred to (in the 2000 presidential primaries) as "agents of intolerance" will seek to sow fear of and hatred towards the GLBT minority, just as people like Senator Jesse Helms sowed fear of and hatred towards our black minority. Such fear-based tactics raise TONS of money, and that is what organizations like Focus on the Family (FOTF) are all about - money, LOTS of money, for THEM. As long as they keep these red-herring personal social issues in the news, they can rake in millions and live high on the hog, hob-nobbing with political types and thinking they are king-makers. A pox on them all.

There is good news today on that front. FOTF announced major cuts in staff (18%, or 203 positions) and a cutback in its efforts (cutting four of eight magazines, reducing two of the remaining magazines). It was also noted in the press that 96% of FOTF funds come from donations (not sale of books intended to help "families") and that October 2008 donations were $2M less than last year. Still, the political "arm" of FOTF found over $1M to throw at the prop 8 effort. This is sad, but the worm is turning and someday we will prevail in allowing all citizens to enjoy the human dignity of living their own private lives in peace and quiet.

Well said Mike. If only the energy people spend on hate and discrimination were spent on more positive efforts.

Good for those who continue making a difference in putting out our fires of hatred. Only 100 people may have been at the Colorado Springs rally, but there are millions upon millions in this nation who believe in equal rights for all.

The only intolerance is from threads such as this one. The vote was not about equal rights, it was about amending a constitution. The people voted, they spoke and now some are angry at the outcome.

Just because a vote was cast doesn't mean there is bigotry or intolerence. It means they didn't want the constitution amended.

I just don't see the intolerance in this thread. I see a few people asking about the usefulness of protesting a CA issue in CO. Maybe I'm just being too logical and rational here.
