Question PCSing info needed :0)

My husband and I are Moving to Colorado springs very soon... My husband is in the Army and we just rented a house in the Chaparral Point neighborhood.. It's about 17 miles from Base according to Map Quest which is fine with us, my husband will be leaving early in the mornings for PT so hopefully he will miss the traffic.... I wanted a house with a security system (since my husband travels at times) and it was really hard to find one so we compromised on location...

Just in case anyone wants to know why we aren't moving on post, we do now and it had been a nightmare for us for many reasons.. So I'm looking forward to living off post again...

I'm looking for some information about the area, like shops and schools (for me and my 19 month old) near by, any and all information would be much appreciated.. It would be nice to talk to some people that live in the area...
I'm use to these moves but I'm always really nervous about going to a new place...

Thank you!! Kimberly...

Kimberly, welcome to City-Data. Lots of data in the index of threads, don't miss out on that stuff.

Looks like you're off of Stetson Hills Dr and Marsheffel Rd. You essentially are on the Powers Blvd corridor which has all the shopping and big box stores you'd ever want, eateries, movies, Imax, Costco, and services. You're twenty minutes to Chapel Hills Mall. Your about an hour to Nordstrom's and The Container Store on the far south end of the Denver metro area.

It appears that the location is in Falcon School District (D49) and the current grade school is Stetson ES. There's a branch of Pikes Peak Comm Coll west of you, in Falcon, and a big location of PPCC down near Fort Carson at I-25 and South Academy. See this old thread for links to school districts.

Hi Kimberly,
We are a semi-recent PCS family and have found a real HOME in COS and its folks in general. I know the area where you are moving and you are perfectly located for most anything you will need on a daily basis. Enjoy your time here. You are safe, you have beautiful weather (with the exceptional bad days), and you will find that you won't want to leave COS. This is our 2nd time living here and even if the Army moves us again, we know we'll be back.

I am a military wife also. We are PCSing to Fort Carson soon. I love this site! It has so much information about the area. Im just nervous because this is our first PCS. I have no idea what to expect or do when leaving and arriving. This site has eased some of my fears about the area. I just wish I knew of a site to ease my PCS fears. Mike thanks for all the great posts!

Not that big of a big deal, you may relax. Happens many tens of thousands of times per year in the military services. There are other service members you can talk to. There are resources on both your current and your future duty station that are there to advise you. We're here for whatever they can't answer. If your spouse stays in long enough, you'll do this several, or even many times over 20-30 times of service. You can get to see some pretty neat places around the world on Uncle's dime if you stay in.

Thanks for the kind words. To get the most out of this site, continue to use the index of key threads and add any questions on those topics to those threads (keeps our knowledge nicely condensed in the key threads).

You're gonna love Colorado.

s/Mike
