Home security systems
We are looking into purchasing a wireless home security system to set up ourselves. We visited multiple Radio Shacks and Lowe's but couldn't find anything. Any recommendations where in town we could get something like that?
Thanks!

Well I don't know if this location but here in GA we have Protect America we have it connected to our internet instead of a land line we don't have a home phone. Home Security Systems & Alarms | Protect America GE Home Security When we got our system we didn't pay for anything it is a 3 year contract and we only pay $34.95 a month and there is no hidden fees. We have had them for almost 3 years they are great. HTH

I'd work the internet to learn as much as possible about these things and their technologies. Might be better to buy online too.
Not that this answers your question, but I've heard some security companies will do a lot of work for free in return for you allowing your house to be used as an advertisement or test house to encourage others in the neighborhood to sign up for service....I don't know too much about this but I've heard it has been done.

I don't know anyone who owns one and I have lived here since 1996...I know of businesses who have them of course but I can't say I know a single person here in the Springs area who does. Does anyone on here own one? Then I can say I kinda know someone...

We got that in our house. We are in a new neighborhood and the company wanted to get some signs up in the neighborhood. We didn't pay anything for the equipment and got a bit of a discount on the monthly service.

I've got a wireless as in RF Home Automation system which includes cameras with and without servo motor controlled capability, sensors, etc. for security, tranceiver and lamp modules and the 6-in-1 IR and RF controller for home theatre.
I was going to go into business with this guy installing the systems into new and older homes. The neat thing about the "wireless" or RF technology is the ease of after-the-fact installation and you can sort of take it with you.
The company was called X10 Home Automation, but Radio Shack sold a lesser but similar line called Powerhouse. As has been suggested here, online may be the best way to find these systems.

Just moved to the area, any reliable monitoring companies? Only read/hear horror stories about different companies.

We moved here back in the fall. We bought a new home and we were literally inundated with ADT salespeople. It got so bad - between ADT and the LDS folks...we had to put up a "No Solicitation" sign. Never saw that coming...surprised they haven't knocked on your door!
