Flying Horse area
My wife and I are considering a move to CS from California with our two children who will be 13 and 11. I visited Flying Horse in October and was impressed with the overall development, including Classic Homes quality, the Community Center and Golf Course. I was also told Discovery Canyon is an outstanding school. With that said I'm looking for answers to the following and greatly appreciate your thoughts and comments:
1. What is crime like in Flying Horse and the Surrounding area?
2. What are the neighborhoods like in Flying Horse? Are people friendly? Are there a lot of children?
3. How much snow per year, and does it get windy?
4. My family is extremely active and likes to be outdoors. Is this area condusive to outdoor activities year round?
5. I shopping close by? How far? I thought I saw a new mall going in?
6. Reference the Real Estate Market in Flying Horse. Are prices going to continue to decline or is it a bottom?
Sorry for all the questions but I was really interested in hearing all opinions so I can make an informed decision sometime in the next few months. Thanks for your time.

Not a fan of mega development. You visited and couldn't tell about the crime-ness of the area?
Usually places with great schools and higher home prices are not known for their crime, but crime is everywhere.
It can be very windy on the Front Range, but not always.
I think home prices will continue to decline.
Northern CoS gets more snow, and is cooler than downtown, it may get extreme a few times a winter, but not all that bad. Many people are extremely active all year round.
Weather Station History : Weather Underground
Not a breeder, so can't say much about kids, etc. I work and board horses in the area.

1) Very low crime on the north side of town, especially around the Flying Horse area.
2) The Flying Horse neighborhood seems exceptionally nice. I've also toured it and it just seems obvious it's going to be the nicest place in town. Not sure if the people are nice or not; the people who I encountered seemed to be. I noticed LOTS of kids around there.
3) The snow there is probably similar to the snow anywere in town - maybe a little bit more due to the northern proximity but nothing extreme. Yes, it can be VERY windy sometimes.
4) The Colorado Springs location in general is very condusive to an active lifestyle. As you know, the Flying Horse club offers several indoor options for when the weather is bad.
5) The Promonade Shops at Briargate are probably within 10 minutes, and the Chapel Hills Mall is within 15. There is also a Lowe's, Home Depot, Super Target, and Super Wal-Mart within 10-15 minutes.
6) I misplaced my crystal ball! But I sure hope pricing has hit bottom. Who knows.
I live in my 2nd Classic Home - highly recommend the builder. I have nothing but good remarks about their quality of construction and prompt Customer Care Department.

I live up here near Flying Horse, it is a great area. Lots of families. The nice thing about being up here is that you have many different parks in Blackforest to go hike and geo-cache at. Black forest is the surrounding area to the north and east of Flying Horse. I live about 1/2 mile from Flying Horse, the grocery store is 8 minutes from our house, Mall is about 8-10 minutes. YMCA 9 minutes. (2 YMCA's with in those times)
I really feel if you are going to buy, this is the time to do it. Houses will drop a little more, but not much. I think if you wait till 2010 you will be getting the houses when they are on their way back up.
Some people say we have been in a recession for a year now. Average recession last 18-24months. So we are 1/2 through it.
As far as schools go... http://schoolperformancemaps.com/co/#38.879274%2C-104.734726%2C11%2C1%2C2%2C3
p.s. I have a 14 year old and 12 year old boys (then 2 other ones) We are into sports and hanging outside. So if you have boys, we could hook them up! Also, I know of some great families in this area with girls that age too.

I remember someone posting the Flying Horse outdoor pool is open all year round.
Hard to believe.

Define 'nice.' For the money I'd definately choose other locations.

I guess when I think of "cookie cutter" $4,000,000 homes don't come to mind. You must eat nice cookies!!

Cookie cutter, because they all look the same. If I was spending $4 mill, I'd _defiantely_ find somewhere else to live!
Notice how they have 'california' names of the 'villages?' hahah
Also I didn't see the $mil village, most I saw was the 500K to 1million
