Fort Carson Troops Coming?
I have heard several quantities on the number of troops coming to Fort Carson this Spring. I have heard numbers as small as 5,000 and as large as 30,000. Does anyone have any insight on the actual numbers?

I've heard the 5,000 number a lot for this year. The total troops here, someday, will reach 30,000 soldiers.

Thanks for the verification, that seems more realistic to me... I'll take anything right now, this economy needs to boost soon!

I work at Mtnside and we had a pow wow right before break forewarning us that we would be getting at least 100 more students this spring. We were told 10,000 more souls were being sent to Fort Carson and that the families we were expecting would be living XXX neighborhood and would be bused to our school. Most of the students will be 3-5 graders, these specific families were coming from Korea and they had already done their paperwork...hence why we were getting our numbers/warning. I see kids again tomorrow, so we will see...

Incoming Military Creating Bright Economic Future[/SIZE]

COLORADO SPRINGS - While most of the country is reeling from bleak economic forecasts, Colorado Springs will soon have something to cheer about.
5,000 Fort Carson troops will be returning home from the war during the first two weeks of February.
Then, between May and July another 5,000 troops from the 4th Infantry Division will be relocating here.
Real Estate agent Bob Landry knows the benefits of a military boom. "You unnaturally inject that number of people into this area even if only a percentage of them buy that's still a pretty significant impact," says Landry.
Federal law allows only 30% to be housed on post, leaving 70% to look for housing throughout the city. "Out of 70% of troops needing off base housing 60% of them, as we found out, actually own a home," says U.C.C.S. Economist Fred Crowley.
"A lot of these homes that have been sitting here stagnant on the market and are now going to start to get bought up," adds Landry. He says the areas of Southeast Fountain Valley and the Powers Corridor will benefit from the military families searching for new homes.
Along with the housing market, experts say our general economy should see a big boost. "They will create in the private sector between 3-thousand and 4-thousand more jobs for the civilian population. Selling gasoline, new homes, furniture, and cars. It's an incredible stimulus to the economy," Crowley adds.
Experts also say the national economy is pulling everything down right now but the presence of the military in Colorado Springs will keep us from falling with it.

A good friend of mine is one of the wives of the soldiers coming back from Iraq in a few weeks. They (and several others) will be starting to pack up for their new orders...contact the command. Lots of those military families are upside down in homes they are desperate to sell or rent.
There's also a place on N Academy now... I saw a sign the other day... they help the military find housing.
