Default From So.Cal to Colorado Springs?

Hi Everyone!

My boyfriend and I are planning to move out of California. We have lived in Southern California (Orange County) for our whole lives and frankly...we are just sick of all the materialistic crap and being so close together (living in a townhome). My boyfriend has a job that is allowing him to work from home (if we move). And I just stated my own e-commerce business. We are looking for a single family home with a good amount of land...we are really looking forward to being able to step outside and have privacy.

We are looking for a 3 bed/2 bath home hopefully with at least a 1 acre lot. I hate to admit it, but I am very used to being able to walk my dogs to starbucks 3 miles down the street every morning and being 5-10 minutes from food, post office, shopping, etc. So I am assuming finding a home with that much land will be close to impossible?

We have never been to Colorado, but have been thinking about moving out of CA for quite a while now. I have been talking to a friend who lived in Atlanta, GA and traveled quite a bit around the US when he was looking for a place to move. He ended up moving to Taos, NM. But he highly recommended Bend, OR and Colorado Springs to us.

Anyways, I was hoping that someone could possibly name some places that fit our description? We would prefer a dog-friendly neighborhood and maybe close to hiking?

Thanks in Advance!!!

What will be interesting?

I'm sorry am i giving off a bad vibe or something. I'm just really looking for information so that when we go check out Colorado Springs, we'll have a list of places to check out.

We are excited for change, don't get me wrong. But having things close by is convenient. If it were a choice between convenience or having the house and land we want, we will go for the house and land and deal with having to drive a little farther to get to places.

With that criteria, my suggestion is Woodland Park (30 minutes west of Colorado Springs). The large lot land available in Colorado Springs is a sprawling mess without much close by. Woodland Park is a beautiful town with all of the conveniances and if you both work out of your homes anyway, occasional travel to the Springs or Denver should not be an issue.

Why the desire for so much land, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks for the info!

As for the land - Mainly for our dogs. We would like them to have a large, safe, confined area where they can run and play.

Rent or buy? Budget or price range?
Both of you are working at home?
If buying, kids in the future within five years?

LOL, no bad vibes. I'm just curious as to how soon someone sends you home. Sadly there is an underlying 'distaste' for out of towners here that have no interest in having you "spoil their state" (any more) with your bringing-your-problems-with-you-to-my-town mentality. The two largest offenders; CA and TX

Just keep a stiff lip, hold your head up, work hard and don't be pushed out because someone doesn't care for your wanting a Trader Joes near by or whatever. They all came from somewhere else at one time also. Good luck with the hunt, CO is a large state so I'd suggest you zero in on the job market a bit and then by the weather conditions you can endure. The small towns will then fall in place for you.

That is crazy... This City has more people in it that are from somewhere else. There are very few "natives" even though they ones who are like to show it and exclaim it like it something great. All of these "natives" need to just give me a break. The overall City is very welcoming, so please don't let the "natives" lead you to believe otherwise.

Colorado is rather turning CA-like, with developments jamming people on top of each other.

Woodland Park/Florrisant/Divide is a great idea. If your guy can work from home the world is yours! Take your time are do alot of research--in CO, NM, WY, UT etc.

Woodland park would be great. But if you want to stay in C/S you can find homes w/ land in the middle of town. It all depends on how much you want to spend. There are some great areas w/ land that not alot of people know about.
