Looks like no one will get a new DOC HQ anytime soon.....

DENVER • Construction of a new Department of Corrections headquarters in Colorado Springs fell victim to the economic recession on Thursday when Gov. Bill Ritter cancelled the project.

She said their building stinks but, it's the way it is. She also said there are no pay increases either, not even C.O.L. She said the next thing would be lay-offs...some are worried about it. She is a paralegal ..for 14 years so she's safe.
The building now costs them millions.....the new one would be a rent-to-own sort of deal. Her words.

Can you ask her if she thinks this had anything to do with the fight between Colorado Springs and Pueblo for the location of the new DOC HQ and a easy way out for the Governor who was in a no win situation?

I hear that now when the economy is good in a year or so the whole process will start over again thus giving Pueblo what it wants with out having to say so directly....

She did say that it was the....something (maybe Executive) Directors decision...not Ritters. If that helps.
I was wishing it would be here in Canon (seeing how this is where ALL of the Major Prisons are ( DUH?!!!)...and, DOC owns the land,.....kind of a no brainer (I know Josseppie, you are a Pueblo freak..but still!!!)@!
I think that once the economy bounces back,...it will still be in the Springs..doggonitt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think thats up in the air to be honost. Pueblo had the best deal till they added the cost of travel after the fact, why Pueblo and Canon city was upset. The next time I think the pressure will be strong to make the process as open as possible and there is no way the Springs can match the kind of incentives Pueblo can offer mainly due the fact we have a 1/2 cant sales tax they do not for primary jobs.
