Pull up the Colorado Springs crime maps (http://www.springsgov.com/Page.asp?NavID=3358), and you'll see that the majority of our crime tends to be around the downtown area and south/southeast of downtown. The area where Spring Creek is (Fountain & Circle), is right in the heart of our high crime areas.[quote] Now I only agree with part of your statement. I live downtown off of Cascade and crime isn't high there at all. The central area above Spring Creek and below it is pretty bad crime wise. And a small patch on S.Nevada. But not downtown. The only crime downtown if after the bars let out and it is all in one area. Plus we have Ivywild which is right next to us that has some good schools. I would recommend downtown to anyone who doesn't mind not having a brand new house and likes to go exploring by foot. Also Philly isn't nothing like Colorado Springs so it is like comparing B-more (baltimore) to the Springs. The housing isn't
crazy high either unless you move to the Old North End or the Old Broadmoor.

I agree, comparing Philly to Springs is like comparing Compton to Sunnyvale. But perhaps we need some first-hand statistics here... Three volunteers: One to stand in downtown Philly, another in downtown springs, and the third in the middle of Greenland OSP, each one holding a laptop case with cash spilling out, and see who gets robbed first.
I'll volunteer for the Greenland spot... any others?

Denver is much better than the Springs for minorites/mixed couples. That's where I'd look to live anyway.

That’s fair. I accidentally generalized an entire area (downtown and nearby) and school district (D-11) into one group. I do agree with you that there are some (limited) nice neighborhoods and schools in the downtown and surrounding area. I do still stand by my statement, however, that I would rather live and choose to raise kids in the suburbs over downtown.
Multiple bars closing 7 nights per week are certainly something that needs to be factored into downtown living. True, they are pretty well centralized, but the folks leaving the bars end up all over the place and some of them commit crimes including acts of violence and driving drunk.

I guess you have been downtown in awhile at nite. Because they upped the amount of Police down there a whole lot more so crime isn't a issue. I have lived downtown for 4 years with no problems so I can give a opinion of someone who actually lives downtown and not assume. The only issues I have ever had is the snow removal. There are a lot of decent neighborhoods downtown but most people only visit for a day and don't know about them. But you are entitled to your opinion and I am not going to try to change it. And IMO there is nothing wrong with raising your kids in the suburbs either but there are some nasty ones out there too! So all of them have issues just we shouldn't throw them all into one catagory when speaking about a area. I don't think anything west of Wahsatch is downtown IMO.

Right on your street . . . right after the bars closed . . . 3 weekends ago.
Incident Date January 25, 2009
Time 2:27 AM
Title Pursuit
Location Cascade Av and Pikes Peak Ave
On 1/25/09 at 0220 hrs, Officer Chenoweth was dispatched to the Ritz Grill regarding a Motor Vehicle Theft in progress. Vehicle owners were standing in front of their running SUV when an older male party asked them for a cigarette. They briefly looked away from the vehicle, only to look back and discover that the older male had jumped behind the wheel and was backing out. The female owner tried to open the passenger door and was knocked to the ground when the suspect sped away.
Approximately 7 minutes later while checking the area, Officer Chenoweth located the vehicle northbound on Cascade Avenue. He attempted to the stop the vehicle which refused to pull over, moving at slow speeds. At Nevada Avenue and Pikes Peak the suspect fled and ran a red light at Nevada Ave and Colorado. Officer Chenoweth terminated ground pursuit and AIR1 took over. The suspect ran additional red lights, fleeing eastbound on Pikes Peak. AIR1 observed that the suspect pulled over onto Institute and fled on foot. Officer Nick Kundert located the suspect jumping a fence one block to the north.
The vehicle was recovered but it was found that the suspect had driven up and over a median on Pikes Peak Ave, causing undercarriage damage and damage to the left rear tire/wheel. The suspect was positively identified by witnesses. He was identified as Robert Ramsey, Age 48. He was arrested and booked on charges of Vehicular Eluding, Motor Vehicle Theft, DUI, Hit and Run and other charges.
Adults Arrested Robert Ramsey, Age 48

oh my, some crime did happen downtown! lol, you are kidding me right? 3 weeks ago? do you know how many people are downtown at night at one time? this is the only thing that happened in 3 weeks? ohhhhhhhhhhh man I am going to have to move now because crime is getting crazy downtown!
it's it a NO, NO, to leave your car unattended and running? and at 2:20 am? he should have just left the keys in the door of the car. this is high crime too you?
remember I respect your opinion to raise kids in the suburbs now respect mine to think that you can't judge something if you don't experience it first hand. you can have your opinion about it but don't put it on people.
so where do you live at and I will try and find some dirt too? just joking, you have to understand how many people are downtown at once compared to how many people are where you live. and maybe the guy who stole the car lives in your area was trying to get a ride home. if he lived downtown then he wouldn't need a ride. lol

but either way it is a mute cause since the OP doesn't want anything to do with downtown life. which there is nothing wrong with that. good luck in your search.
