Are you trying to tell me that 60% of Colorado Springs (with a population of 376,427 according to the Census data from 2007) or 225,856 people are military in Colorado Springs? This is false information from Reginhild. Even if you were to add retired military, there wouldn't be 225,856 military people in Colorado Springs. Your statement would probably be accurate if you were talking about a city like Junction City, KS, but not here...

That was chamber of commerce info from when I arrived in 2006...and you need to read my statement again...and you need to do some research before you say someone is putting out bad information. It is military, former military, and those that do work for the military that end up causing the 60% figure. (including families of all above)
Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, ITT, L-3 Communications, Harris Corporation, Boeing, General Dynamics, Raytheon Company, Colsa, SAIC, EMS Defense, Davis Technologies, Booze-Allen-Hamilton, ASRC Aerospace Corporation, Combat Training Solutions, Concurrent Technologies Corp, ANSER, BTAS, Infinity Systems Engineering, Imprimis, Axxess Data Solutions, Braxton Technologies, Intelligent Software Solutions, L-3 Communications, Quantech Services, ManTech Command Control Systems, ANC Research & Development, Rhino Corps Inc, EG&G, MEI Technologies, Dynetics Inc, McCallie Associates, System Studies and Simulations Inc, Shape Technologies, Master Solutions, ARINC Inc, Strategic Analysis Inc, Construction projects on military bases, National Space Security Institute, Government civilians working at bases/forts (Ft. Carson, Air Force Academy, Peterson AFB, Schriever AFB, Cheyenne Mountain), Civilian security contractors, USAA, Applied Technology Institute (ATI)... all work for the Military and Defense industry with locations in Colorado Springs.
You look at the actual military people and families, you look at all the industries above, you look at how many military retire here and go on to work in other areas, and you have a huge population related to the military.

I guess considering just about every male over the age of 60 was forced into Vietnam or prior wars, a high percentage of "military" is true for every City... Maybe, I should have clarified that Spring Creek has about 60% of active duty military families living here. I wasn't aware I needed to be so technical here...

I was not being technical when I stated what I heard about Colorado Springs - got misinterpreted based on what you know about Spring Creek.

I believe you are very direct and to the point...and 100% right! Even if we don't want to judge a book by its cover, we do because first glance is everything. I don't think it's a really bad thing for everyone, just some people who have not embraced diversity yet. However, I do get surprised from time to time and it makes me think I'm overanalyzing.
I think there are efforts being made to move forward from race not being an issue, and those are the areas I really want to explore. I don't want my child feeling like she is different because she has one white parent and one black parent. I want it to feel normal to her because in my eyes it is! Kids can be cruel, and parents can be very judgemental. The less racism she is exposed to, the better. I will make sacrifices on where I live to give this side of life to her. Right now, I don't feel like she is getting that opportunity to see a bigger picture (she is young now, but won't later on if we stay in the area we are in now).

Thanks for understanding . I truely believe unless you've experienced, in this type of situation, you don't really understand it. I know I wouldn't have if I didn't go through the stares and looks and comments.
The only problem with choosing the neighborhood that is military heavy is the fact that on here it is said to have a lot of problems with crime, etc.
If anyone knows of a low crime, high military resident area (or area full of diversity; for example, here in PA it's Mt. Airy in Philadelphia; it was even on Oprah and is known for its diversity, low crime, and tree lined streets), please give me your suggestion! Not really looking to be out in the suburbs. Want to be close to all conveniences. Want a decent yard, but not huge (around .25 acres). Around 1500 sq. foot house. Friendly neighbors. Working neighborhood. Safe. Casual. Can here kids playing in the street. You know, that kind of place (if it exists!).

Might as well take this opportunity to say Spring Creek again... Fits all of your criteria except for the 0.25 acre yard... We do have a lot of common green space throughout the neighborhood however... Largest individual lot in the neighborhood is probably around 5000-6000 sq. ft (which is typical in most new neighborhoods). Pictures can be found at the following website:

I think you will see higher crime in more run down neighborhoods (low rent, military folks rent there to save money and don't care much since they will leave in 1 to 3 years) and less crime in nicer neighborhoods (military live there when they buy a home, plan to retire in the area, have family in the area, or have kids they want in better schools). Military in a neighborhood does not necessarily make it higher or lower crime area - but, military will live in both low and higher crime areas.

What area do you think is best and is still close enough to Fort Carson?

I think there are some nice neighborhoods outside the West gate side of Ft. Carson West of the HWY 115 and Academy intersection (South/East of the Broadmoor area).
....just looked it up. It is the Broadmoor Bluffs and Broadmoor Glen area.
