Yep, Colorado Springs is excellent for retirees. Everything is great here in my opinion. The only disadvantage is for people looking for work as the competition is fierce! ...what do you expect when it is such a wonderful place!

Nope, I'm a healthy young 40 something! Actually, the altitude does slow you down a bit with physical exertion - can't run a couple miles as fast in the Springs as at the Beach.

The more research I do the more CO seems to be the place for my family, also. My husband, son (and baby to be) and I live in Tucson. It's hot here, too. I've been here for 14 years and am ready for something cooler. My husband is looking for a law enforcement job. Does anyone know if they're on hiring freezes? We're planning a trip out but don't know where to start. CO Springs?

I'm sure we're cooler than Tucson. Look at weather data on the data pages of this website to compare the two cities, click on the words city-data.com in upper left of this page.
There is a budget crunch with our city, hiring may be frozen, but there is always a chance. There are several large prisons in the area of Canon City and Florence that may be of interest too.

15 years ago, Colorado Springs was a great place. Now? Forget about it. The influx of the lunatic religious fundies has completely ruined this town. Now only have these people made us the laughingstock of the country (endorsing "intelligent design" for example), they've shifted the population center to the Northern end of the city, resulting in the near complete decimation of the downtown area--which is the only area of the city with any character. In short, the entire city has become one giant example of unplanned, undifferentiated urban sprawl. All in all, a basic s**thole when compared to what Denver offers for a very slightly higher cost of living.

The lunatics seem to get along with the rest of us (don't push their religion like they do in other places). Yes, we had a regilous leader make big news recently (Ted Haggard) but people in Colorado Springs go about their business and seem unconcerned just as if it were an odd crime making the news.
All cities tend to have population shifts. There has been lots of new construction to the North but it is also partly geographic with the Airport blocking easy access to the East, Ft. Carson blocking easy access to the South, and the Mountains blocking easy access to the West. Easy access being the ability to make more than one or two main roads in that direction.
Denver is a bigger city with lots of big city stuff to offer - if you are a big city person, go to Denver. Colorado Springs has more to offer for the outdoor enthusiast with closer access to the mountains, multitudes of hiking trails, biking trails, and parks. Colorado Springs also has beautiful scenic geography with Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, the canyon drive toward Woodland Park, Seven Falls, Black Forest, hilly land with rock outcroppings and ridges and designated open space/park areas. We have a more old fasioned out west style downtown including the quaint 'old main street' style shopping in Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs.

Intelligent Design vs Random Chance and/or believing in "magic" where something comes from nothing out of nothing and becomes something?
I like the first set of odds.
Let me guess, you expect tollerance FROM everyone else, but are not willing to show any towards people you may not agree with? I'm shocked.
To go back on topic: I've been lurking here for a while and reading a lot of links etc about COS. Question: Is this person's hatred towards the "people of faith" in COS common place? Just curious if there is becoming a "great divide".
Oh and I hate to tell you this omegaman but us "lunatics" are everywhere. BOO! lol

Ok, Folks, this is not the religion forum, so let's keep the focus on Colorado Springs please.
